Urban Decay Naked Palette - original or 2?

justtryingtodomybest · 13/05/2012 13:56

I have made some extra money by selling a few bits and pieces on e-bay so have decided to treat myself to the Urban Decay Naked Palette. I have heard so many good things about it and I love the sort of colours that are included.
But now I see there's a new version out. Does anyone have both? Which would you recommend?

I've only got the original - do love it though.

emsyj · 13/05/2012 14:25

The newer one is in more hardwearing packaging and has more cooler colours in - there are reviews on www.makeupalley.com and lipglossipping.com.

The3Bears · 13/05/2012 14:28

I only have the original aswell, I love it use it everyday. The packaging is pants though.

ScooseLooseAbootThisHoose · 13/05/2012 14:30

I have naked 2 and I use it every day I love it the colours are all wearable and you can create lots of different looks.

RustyBear · 13/05/2012 14:30

Dd has both - had one for Christmas and the other for her birthday - will ask her which is best

AuntieMaggie · 13/05/2012 14:33

I have the first one too and love it. I also like that its got a nice silver in it.

Go and try them both out to see what you'd use most.

valiumredhead · 13/05/2012 14:36

I have both - cheap off ebay! Grin

Original - anyone can wear any of the colours every day - beautiful subtle nudes.

Second one is way more shimmery, tbh I don't like it that much - might be ok with a tan or on holiday...

I would go with the first one!

Have had a text from DD:
"if she's a warm skin tone and likes autumny colours get 1, if she's a cool skin tone get 2, wants something a bit less golden with a more silvery sheen. warm skin tones are more yellowy cool ones are more pinky White. personally I would say 1 is better for older women, [DD is 22 btw, to put 'older' into context Grin but if she has particularly hooded eyes, got for 2 as the range of sheens make the eyes stand out. x"

Hello, I have both. I bought the Naked 2 in March and Naked a couple of weeks ago. I bought them from Debenhams when they had 10% off and a further 10% off from Topcashback. I love them both - I know that's not very helpful. Can you go and have a look at them first? I couldn't make it to the shops so went by photos on line. The best photos for the original Naked are at supergorgeous.co.uk. The packaging is a lot more hardwearing with no 2 and it has a better brush & a couple of my favourite colours - pistol & snakebite. The original is much lighter (& far less hardwearing) packaging & comes with a mini of the primer potion which is fab (the 2nd has a lipgloss). They both have lots of shimmery shades but the 2nd is supposed to be cooler shades. I love them both and find them sufficiently different to have both. If I was just going to have one I would go for Naked 2. If you're thinking of getting them off Ebay, be careful because there a lot of fakes on there. There's some blogs on Youtube about how to recognise a fake Naked.
I spent ages looking on Makeupalley & various beauty blogs to decide which to get & then loved No2 so much, I had to get No 1 as well!

valiumredhead · 13/05/2012 20:16

I got mine from ebay for £18 quid each - not fakes and I only buy from sellers that say they are happy for things to be returned - that usually separates the wheat from the chaff Wink I would NOT pay the full price for them - they are over priced at £45.

emsyj · 13/05/2012 20:37

They're full price £36 in Debenhams - or on offer at the moment for £32.40 on the website. Never seen them for sale at £45!!!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/05/2012 20:54

Mine was 30 pounds in January this year iirc (Debenhams) and has proved worth every penny.

whackamole · 13/05/2012 20:57

I have Naked 2 and I love it.

I use all the colours and just love it. Can you tell I love it? Grin

Housewife2010 · 13/05/2012 21:03

If you like the shades and will use most of them, I think they are very good value. You get 12 full size eyeshadows, which retail for £13 each separately, a mini eye primer or lipgloss & a good quality brush for £32.40 (at Debenhams). Even less when you go through a cashback site & take credit card loyalty points into consideration.

whackamole · 13/05/2012 21:09

Yeah they are good value. I paid £36 for mine full price from Debenhams. Initial outlay is high, but when you consider that is £3 per eyeshadow - you would spend more than that on Collection 2000 nowadays!

Dropdeadfred · 13/05/2012 21:15

I love urban decay but I love sleek palettes too. I got their au naturel palette and it is lovely!!!

Pinkglow · 14/05/2012 11:05

I have the first one and TBH when I first got it I was disappointed at the lack of matt colours. However I use it at least three times a week as the shimmer in the first one arent that shimmery on and it doesnt matter which colours I go for, they all go together and blend beautifully. Im planning on getting the second for christmas.

justtryingtodomybest · 15/05/2012 20:17

Dropdeadfred - I've never heard of Sleek. Is their stuff good? It looks lovely and seems very reasonably priced?

EllenParsons · 15/05/2012 20:52

I just got an email from Debenhams saying you get £10 worth of extra points on the beauty club if you spend £40 on urban decay. Might use it as an excuse to finally treat myself to the Naked pallette. Just mentioning in case the offer is of interest to anyone else!

Dropdeadfred · 15/05/2012 21:21

Justtrying... It's lovely!! Really pigmented and last a long time. I have about 6 of their palettes ( can afford to cos they are so cheap!!!)

justtryingtodomybest · 16/05/2012 17:22

Dropdeadfred - I went and bought the Sleek Au Naturel palette today and it seems lovely. I also bought a blusher and lip gloss. If you are in the UK, Superdrug have all their make-up on 3 for 2 just now so it's even more bargain-tastic! Thanks for the tip.

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 16/05/2012 17:58

Where do you get Sleek stuff from?

justtryingtodomybest · 16/05/2012 18:45

Valiumredhead - you can get it online - www.sleekmakeup.com/

Or, in the UK, it's available through Superdrug stores

valiumredhead · 16/05/2012 19:34

Oh thanks - going to Superdrug on Friday, will take a look.
