What do I wear for a Mums night out?

FabMum1 · 08/05/2012 20:12

All the Mums are having a get together in a few weeks and I don't know what to wear. We're going to a bar and possibly to see a band play, not sure yet.
I want to look trendy and maybe a little bit beautiful (but that'll take alot of hardwork).
Help me decide ladies
I'm about 5ft 8 n a size 8

If I was a size 8 I wouldn't be asking a bunch of strangers on the internet what to wear Grin.

Sorry, not helpful - but you will look great in anything Smile

dexter73 · 08/05/2012 20:16

Skinny jeans, heels and a top? Boring but that is what I would wear!

bigTillyMint · 08/05/2012 20:18

What Ragwort and Dexter said!

itdidntworkout · 08/05/2012 20:20

What dexter said, but make it a top with a little sparkle as I think it adds to the occasion.

FabMum1 · 08/05/2012 20:27

Thank you for the compliment, I'm just not very good at dressing myself.
I always look at people and think how fab they look, I just can't put things together.
Where is the best place to buy from?

itdidntworkout · 08/05/2012 20:29

Depends on your budget. I like to go to a department store and look at the mannequins as they usually have the best on offer from each concession. Magazines are also a good place to start.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/05/2012 20:32

Skinny black jeans - the M&S 'tregging' ones sound vile but are really good and only around 20 quid

Nice silk top - how much do you want to spend? Ted Baker usually have some gorgeous ones.

Heels.

New lipstick.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/05/2012 20:32

How old are you? And where do you usually shop?

FabMum1 · 08/05/2012 20:38

I'm late 30s n usually shop in H&M n TK Maxx, boring I know

I don't want to be spending lots of money £50 max

So what have you already got that you could wear? Do you just need a top or a whole outfit?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/05/2012 20:51

Have you already got some jeans that make you feel good? And some heels?

Warehouse had a lovely silk vest the other day - and I'm pretty sure that it was less than 30 pounds.

FabMum1 · 08/05/2012 20:53

I have many jeans, but they are all very casual, nothing I'd feel glam in. Maybe that's where I should start.
Some new jeans, now what style, skinny?

OP posts:
dexter73 · 08/05/2012 20:58

I like black skinnies for an evening out. These are a bargain!

FabMum1 · 08/05/2012 21:10

Dexter, what top would you wear and heels?

Jacket or blazer?

Plus, hair up or down?

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/05/2012 21:19

What jackets have you got? Personally I'd go with either a biker jacket or a blazer.

Lilyloo · 08/05/2012 21:21

Black or dark blue skinny jeans, heels nice top and 3/4 sleeve blazer. Can always go for dressy top and nice jewellery then.

FabMum1 · 08/05/2012 21:33

I've got a slightly cropped biker jacket or a cream blazer, that's it.

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/05/2012 21:41

With your biker jacket?

FabMum1 · 08/05/2012 21:46

Oh thats cute, not seen that before.

Do you not think something fitted, or is a less fitted top better with skinny jeans?

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/05/2012 21:48

No idea! We need another skinny size 8er to answer that question for you! I just thought it was pretty and it's silk so feels a bit 'special' and Warehouse silk is pretty good and decent value too.

FabMum1 · 08/05/2012 21:50

It is beautiful, will look on the warehouse website

forevergreek · 08/05/2012 22:10

I'm a tad shorter than you but a size 6/8. Would say rule of thumb is tight bottoms with loose top or vise versa. Same as with a dress, the shorter the dress the more you should cover arms, longer the dress more arms/ top half showing

Does that make sense?

Ps office have a great sale of heels atm!

FabMum1 · 08/05/2012 22:35

Thanks forevergreek, that does make sense
Where old u recommend for jeans?

I an size 8 too, but a bit too small now for Next and M&S size 8 (which used to be my staples). (illness not dieting is responsible for the being too small bit btw!)

I have bought Asda great bum slim leg jeans after reading about them on here, they are great and a dark wash so quite smart looking.

Also bought Fat Face and Hobbs skinnies, but they are more expensive, good though!

Agree with tight jeans and looser top for a going out look.
