Please help me find an 'event' outfit

Venturing nervously into this topic for the first time...

I've got a week or so to find an outfit for a wedding. Timing is late afternoon going on until evening.

My problem is that until recently I've fitted nicely into a size 10 dress and not had too much trouble finding things that look OK. Recently I've not been too well and have gradually put on weight, sadly very unevenly. I'm now a size 8-10 in trousers and a 12-14 in tops with a very bloated abdomen. I've held out for as long as possible in the hope that I'll lose some weight but that's obviously not going to happen. Sad

Yesterday I spent the day in Debenhams, BHS, M&S and a few other places and found precisely nothing that I liked or that would fit me.

I want something below knee length ideally as anything that finishes on the knee makes my legs look awful. Thigh high suits me but it's inappropriate for this do. I can't have anything with a waist because I haven't got one. I suit V necks best - anything with a square neck emphasises my rather beefy shoulders and I'd like to find something that was reasonably flattering although at this stage I'm beginning not to care too much as long as it fits.

Solid black is out and yellow does nothing for me. I hate pink with all my heart and soul but I rather like blues/aquas. I'd like something that I can accessorise with black as I have shoes, bags, jackets etc.

Think you can help?

Try Hobbs outlet on line. Very quick delivery and you can pay a little more for next day. Lots of colours and some really good reductions. Lengths tend to be a bit more sensible than some and the website usually says specifically rather than leaving you peering at a model s knees on the computer and wondering how tall she is. They also do tops and skirts which may help the size difference. Good luck

Try Anusha. They have some really great dresses for all shapes and sizes. My body has really changed since having my daughter, and I have bought several things from here. Good luck!

Thanks for these.

I'm going to brave the shops again and if I find nothing today then it's going to be a quick online order.

No suggestions on clothes, but just to say enjoy the wedding. I'm sure you'll look fine - the current figure you describe is better than an awful lot of people's, mine included!! That's all :-)

Thanks for that Its the difficulty getting things to fit that's the problem. I'm grateful for the boobage Grin

What about Pepperberry

Ah when I say boobage what I really mean is slightly more than the B cup I had before.

Anyway I have had success!!! I have a silky draped sleeveless dress from Jacques Vert which was reduced from £150 to £69. It's in shades of blue and purple and just below knee length

However some of the links you posted made me look at something that I normally would have avoided so it was worth posting

Oh and I know Jacques Vert gets Hmm faces but I was pleasantly surprised by this item.

Hurrah! And it was a bargain. What more could you ask? Have fun

I bought a pashmina on eBay yesterday. Well two actually because I got a black one in case the purple didn't match. Just over a fiver for the two and the purple is an exact match. I'm starting to feel more confident

I booked a personal shopper at Debenhams for the first time ever - need an outfit for a wedding in Spain in July. It's totally free and utterly luxurious. Really nice lady did a quick questionnaire about what I wanted and she selected some fab dresses which I never would have even looked at. You just sit in a comfy chair reading magazines while she goes off on the hunt for your perfect outfit.
She wasn't pushy either and in the end recommended the cheapest of all the dresses because it looked the best.
Highly recommend.

Is it the purple silky one warmandwooly?

Love the colour but not keen on the neckline. I've not seen that site before but it's now bookmarked. Thanks

I posted a similar message yesterday, and, thanks to the lovely helpful replies, ordered
this
yesterday
I'm not saying it's what you'll want, but there are lots of other nice things on there as well - good luck

Jins · 11/05/2012 16:17

That's lovely. If I hadn't found one already I'd be ordering thatGrin
