Dressy outfit for anniversary dinner, short and chunky so tricky

Has anyone stumbled across a dress or dressy outfit that miraculously looks amazing on a size 16, 5ft nothing person?! I have largeish boobs, wobbly tummy, no waist, very bad legs and wobbly arms. Dark colouring. Have dinner booked next weekend at a lovely restaurant to celebrate our 10th WA so ideally would get something new.
I did buy a dress fro pepper berry which was black which chiffon sleeves (like a bit of chiffon) but it showed my chunky calves too much and I felt v conscious of my thick waist.
Fall back outfit is normally straight black jeans (I pretend they are trousers), high heels and a blouse with a tight bottom that floats above.
Having my haircut on the day which always helps!

This one

LK Bennett 18 is a 16 ime, in this dress anyway.

Hmm, tHank you Cod, I think I may order that, I'd certainly like to try it on. I must admit, I have NEVER looked in LKB before, I thought they only did clothes for the skinnies.

That dress is amazing. I have just bought the very similar Georgia for a wedding and it is so flattering. You do need to size up though - am also a 16 and the 18 is perfect on me.

That's not cod.
I'd get a coast Olivia.

Olivia really lovely, but sold out in the sleeved version except in size 8, sadly.

They have Olivias in John Lewis too I think but I don't fancy sleeveless and it looks like it's above the knee which is not a good look on me. The LkB dress due to arrive today, fingers crossed.

my friend bought this last week and it looked fab on her M&S dress

Did it come? Did it come????

Chewbecca · 10/05/2012 22:15

Yes it did and it is remarkably flattering so thank you very much indeed for the recommendation. Even DH (who would really like me to shrink a bit if he is honest) thought it looked good.
Sneaked out to John Lewis at lunch today and found myself buying a pair of very spiky carvela peep toe heels to go with it (can't locate on their website so cannot link) but think I might take them back as they were very extravagant, I can't walk in them and may only wear them once so very silly really! I have other heeled shoes that are comfy but a little clumpy, thought this dress deserved spiky.
Night out is tomorrow night so will decide soon!
Thanks again, can't believe I have a dress I feel good in!

Hooray!

I was going to suggest the Pepperberry chiffon sleeve one, funny that's the one you've tried! Its very Adele, looks lovely on. I think maybe you're being to self critical, no one would be looking at your calves with a killer cleavage!

I am also short and chunky (but with a waist) and I just make sure I wear lovely round toe high heels with a slight platform, it early helps balance my body. Did you try heels on with the Adele dress? There is a photo of a size 18 5'3' wearing that dress on Pepperberry FB photos, looks great.

If you don't like your calves, how about a maxi dress?
