Prom dresses that aren't yuck - where to look?

Dd1 has a y13 prom and dd2 has a y11 prom on consecutive nights - dd2 is on prom committee so wants to look good. Both are 5'6ish, dd1 has dark hair and size 10/12, dd2 is blonde and very fair and size 8/10. Neither want anything long, dodgy or what anyone else would wear. Dd1 wears quite a lot of vintage and hopes to study law next year so would get more wear out of something more formal - she fancies just below the knee or pretty short and swishy. Both want to stay away from Topshop/Monsoon/where everyone else might go.

All ideas welcome please, especially anything a bit quirky.

Why not look and see if there's either a good secondhand (e.g. designer resale) or a decent hire shop near you?

Your dds are more likely to get something unusual and good quality without having to pay a shocking amount for it.

Whereabouts in the country are you?

Did you find dresses for your DDs?

For your dark haired dd who likes vintage and full skirts. www.lindybop.co.uk/classy-vintage-1950s-rockabilly-style-red-bow-swing-party-evening-dress-790-p.asp
www.natashabailie.com/collections/vintage-prom-dresses
weheartit.com/entry/28185708 (I love this)
swellvintage.blogspot.ca/2011/11/partying-partying-yeah.html The black and white one seems perfect for your dd1.

Times like this, I wish I had a dd.
