I can't believe I just did that. I didnt even need one. But I've been hankering after one for so long, lurking on the mn threads and theres never been one on sale in a 14 that I've been able to get my hands on. Then lo and behold mn sends their newsletter and before I know it I've just spent nearly 80 quid that I dont have...

Lucky you! I'd seen that last night and now was the first oppurtunity I had to get online and the 14s have gone! Sad

georgie22 · 02/05/2012 16:47

opportunity!

lynniep · 02/05/2012 16:48

I was super lucky. 14 wasnt in stock the first time I tried, so I put a 16 in the basket. By the time I got to checkout that was out of stock, so I tried again and noticed there was a 14 in the heather that wasnt there before!

Me, I got one. I LOVES it.
Fast delivery too

georgie22 · 02/05/2012 16:50

Oh I was looking at the black! I will keep a look out now. Hope it lives up to its reputation!!

CointreauVersial · 03/05/2012 00:06

Me Me Me!! I ordered a 10 in black on Monday, great price. Can't wait to see if it's all it's cracked up to be.

You can be certain that its arrival will herald the start of summer, and it won't rain again until October. Grin

lynniep · 03/05/2012 11:00

Just a follow up - it arrived just now (I ordered it yesterday afternoon - impressive as it wasnt next day specifically - just standard delivery) and I LOVE IT!!

I have an M&S stormwear one which is almost waterproof and a similar sort of design (in black) but whilst its a heavy fabric there is no 'padding' and so not great for colder weather. I also have a big old quilted thing from Cotton Traders which is great for cold but I got completely saturated the other day in about 5 minutes wearing it. So I wanted something to do both jobs, but I would have coped had this not been on offer.

The colour is heather, which is I guess kind of a muted crimson. Its lovely. Matt, not shiny. I ordered a 14 (its marked as L) although I was hesitant since I'm a 14-16 at the mo and read that I should size up. It is however, perfect size for me - I could get a medium thick jumper under there if I wanted. Nice length (I'm 5,5)

The sleeves ARE long - however when I straighten my arms they come between the knuckle and my middle finger joint which is fine by me. There are no pointy 'nipples' as some mnetters have had issues with LOL. It is warm enough to wear in cold weather, but I probably would need an extra wool layer in winter - just right for now though.

The hood is a bit big (not as vast as the M&S one) and has a peaked cap bit which is a bit odd but I can deal. Pockets are nice and soft and warm to put cold hands in.

I therefore feel justified in my spend ;)

was it the normal one then as everytime I've nlooked it's only been the insulated one (got one) and could do with a normal wakefield in a 12 as my 14 is too big again Grin

CointreauVersial · 03/05/2012 13:19

Mine arrived today too (the insulated one, Black size 10), but I'm at work, so I haven't done more than give it a quick feel. Will report back later when I've had a chance to pose in front of a mirror.

It feels wrong buying a padded coat now, but I have my eye on wet winters to come.

Pelicano · 03/05/2012 13:47

I wanted a insulated one but got a non-insulated one as it was half-price in Autumn.
Is it worth buying the insulated one?

lynniep · 03/05/2012 17:12

I did get the insulated one, because I've got an M&S coat which isn't insulated but its ok if the weather is chilly and a bit wet. I was quite snug doing the school run today, whereas with the M&S one I'd have had to grin and bear the chill (or stick a jumper on underneath)

suebfg · 03/05/2012 18:29

what's the sizing like?

lynniep · 03/05/2012 19:13

I think that they come up fairly generously (I am a 14-16 and I went for what they have called a 14 although the tag says 'L')

When I say fairly generously I probably mean true to size, for a coat. Its a fairly fitted but comfortable fit, not movement restricting at all and I think a 16 would have looked too big in the shoulders and chest.

Do a search though for it on mn and you'll find differing opinions!

So, the hood is huge; but I discovered, after wearing mine for a week that there is a toggle in the back of the hood (on the outside) that allows you to adjust it to fit. See, it really is the ultimate geek chic coat. Grin

SquashedSquirrel · 03/05/2012 20:03

That is a great bargain. Has anyone else managed to find any other long length insulated or down jackets in the Sale?

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 03/05/2012 21:23

Thank you :) I've gone for a heather. I hummed and ahhed in the autumn but couldn't bring myself to spend the money but this is a good price. My Berghaus zip keeps jamming and despite rewaterproofing the sleeves keep leaking and it's too short. Only size 8s left but I'm a bit skinny, so hopefully it will be ok.

lynniep · 04/05/2012 09:20

LOL fakefur I discovered that toggle this morning!!

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 04/05/2012 13:55

:( I got a cancellation email through today. Boo hiss.

ruby22 · 04/05/2012 14:01

I do want one for school runs but in the navy, not red or black, has anyone seen that colour at similar price?

lynniep · 04/05/2012 15:53

depends on the size you're after ruby22

fragola · 04/05/2012 16:31

I thought I'd bagged one, then got an "out of stock" email today. Bah!

dundeemarmalade · 04/05/2012 19:06

I got the poo-brown duffel style one for 60 quid, as the Wakefield in large was manhosive on me, even though am usually a 14. Colour is far from fab but it isn't bl*ck at least, and at least am cosy and dry. And it doesn't have the merrell inverted nipples which were v obvious!

dundeemarmalade · 04/05/2012 19:10

Should clarify that black coats are fine unless you're a spring colour person which I am. Some of my best coats have been black.

CointreauVersial · 04/05/2012 22:00

Well, I've tried on my bargain Wakefield, and I'm very pleased with it. It is fairly close-fitting (I ordered the S, am a size 10), but I think a bigger size would have looked bulky.

I like the fact that you can just fasten the waist tab for quick closure if you don't want to do the whole zip thing. And I don't look like I'm off for a spot of fell-walking, unlike most other waterproof coats out there.

It is certainly warm - I broke into a sweat just trying it on.

Anyway, judging by the out-of-stock messages some of you received I ordered just in time!

SquashedSquirrel · 04/05/2012 22:07

Went to the Field and Trek shop today and spent an hour just trying on Merrell/Berghaus jackets. Very satisfying. They had all different sizes in the Wakefield so if anyone is near/in London, it might be worth taking a trip to the Store.
