What do I wear to a club in Chelsea? Please help!

I've been invited to a club on the Kings Road in Chelsea this weekend and I have absolutely no idea what to wear! Last time I went clubbing, I was probably still a teenager, and it was acceptable to wear combats and a crop top!

I've looked at the dress code for the club and it says "smart casual" which doesn't really say anything to me, and I'm a bit worried about looking like a pleb by either trying too hard or not hard enough.

Is it a dress and heels thing, or do I need to play it a bit lower key? I can spend about £100 on a new outfit, am 5'5" and an hourglass size ten.

Thank you.

Nobody?

Is jeans and a nice top just copping out?

Which club?

A really nice top and designer jeans and heels is what most people wear IME. Depends which club though.

Watch Made in Chelsea for ideas?

headfairy · 26/04/2012 15:08

Depends which club.. if it's one full of royals I would have thought something more akin to cocktail dress type thing more appropriate. Something slinky and slutty from Karen Millen :o

Butwhatdoyoudoallday · 26/04/2012 15:11

It's Public if that makes any difference. If it's jeans and heels I can cover most aspects - may be looking for a new lovely top though, so if you can help that's great!

I've never seen made in Chelsea - will google now.

this is the sort of thing I was thinking of Not my usual thing, but could be fun to do for a night out!

AuntLucyInPeru · 26/04/2012 15:24

I haven't been to this club, but I have clubbed on the Kings Road in recent weeks and I'd avoid jeans - it will be smarter than that. Definitely heels, and slim fit trousers/slinky top or cocktail length dress. Reiss, Zara, Karren Millen, Ted Baker, TopShop will all be able to kit you out - have fun and come back to review it for us afterwards!

AuntLucyInPeru · 26/04/2012 15:25

Ooh - and get some St Tropez fake tan - everyone will look like they're freshly back from marbella!

Butwhatdoyoudoallday · 26/04/2012 15:59

The sequins look a little scary, headfairy! Oddly I think I could manage them in something like this

Or would I be better off going for this or this

I think I might get a second wear out of the Oasis ones, but expect they're a bit drab and not going-out enough. It sucks being deeply unstylish!

I think that's the point OP :o I'm not keen on the first one you linked to, but that's probably because it really wouldn't suit me (i'm not very good at being objective), second one looks a bit officey, the third one is the most suitable. But I do think the look is more glitzy and glam. Sequins, sparkles, tarty, go for broke!

AuntLucyInPeru · 26/04/2012 18:34

Agree with headfairy - the first two are nice day dresses. Third would work, but bling it up with some statement jewellery Grin

LynetteScavo · 26/04/2012 18:38

One of the Oasis dresses, with heels, or skinny trousers (NOT jeans!) and a lovely top. I wouldn't sorry about the tan, but make sure you have good nails and hair.

madammecholet · 26/04/2012 18:45

Dress and heels, statement chandalier earrings, mani and pedi, fake tan, lashes, and a glass of prosecco before you go out.

Wink enjoy.

headfairy · 26/04/2012 18:55

arf madamecholet You've just described my outfit for this saturday night :o minus the fake lashes, could never do them - oh and the mani pedi, done my toes myself, but hate anything on my nails. I do have lashings of fake tan on so that hopefully it'll fade to a suitably convincing shade by Saturday. I have GIANT gold hoop earrings I'm not entirely sure I'll get away with, millions of gold bangles and a bright red frock. Very bold for me!

Not going out in Chelsea though, party at a private members club in the City :o

Can you tell i've been before headfairy Wink

Am just weening myself off lash extensions so have bout MAC lashes for tomos night... am hoping they won't chaff!!

headfairy · 26/04/2012 20:38

In my pre dc days I could easily have got addicted to lash extensions madamecholet, now I just have to make do with more mascara than one person should decently wear. I willl look like Barbara Cartland gone to pot! :o
