I've been to the regular high street retailers (monsoon, topshop, new look, river island etc) and didn't find anything I liked. (can't understand why Karen Millen is so expensive, the stuff in the shop looked and felt cheap to me)
I need something that will show off my shoulders and my arms, I have no boobs to speak of (34b), short ass 5 foot, slim (athletic). I have nice legs too so it can be short, but I am 35 so not too short :D
I need it to define my waist but not toooo clingy unless I find some spanx. (though a pair of control tights would do, where do I get either from?? John lewis?)
Budget up to £150 I think, if it was really nice and I could wear it.
At the moment I have a monsoon black dress that I like with some kind of asian looking dresses. I'll try an upload a pic to my profile (god willing....) so I wouldn't mind something different, a bit more open at the front to show off my shoulders too.
help??
ps: It's not for one specific event, I just need a dress that I can wear for dinners in nice restaurants and night outs to functions etc.

trixymalixy · 23/04/2012 20:19

Reiss also have some nice dresses on sale

008 · 23/04/2012 20:22

Ok ... this is a bit different ... but it shows off all the things you said. It just depends if the fabric is decent ...

Ah, sorry, didn`t realise there was practically no back!

June2009 · 23/04/2012 20:53

ooh thanks, they're lovely!

trixy that looks lovely, I would have to try it as it looks like it could be coming down too far below the knee on me.
008 that looks good too actually I don't mind 'backless', do you know what type of breast support you would wear with that? (unfortunately I've not got perky boobs...)

Hi June ...
Sorry, no idea about boob support. I require industrial strength, so wouldn`t even consider backless.

You could try this ...
<a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.de/imgres?imgurl=www.boobybits.com/images/backless-secret-adhesive-one-piece-bra.jpg&imgrefurl=www.boobybits.com/backless-secret-bra.shtml&h=519&w=415&sz=20&tbnid=bemb0cIaLWcYRM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=72&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dbackless%2Bbra%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=backless+bra&docid=VB482QE6P_ZXCM&sa=X&ei=VnqWT76CCIqphAfMsfHiDQ&ved=0CDgQ9QEwAg&dur=4423" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.de/imgres?imgurl=www.boobybits.com/images/backless-secret-adhesive-one-piece-bra.jpg&imgrefurl=www.boobybits.com/backless-secret-bra.shtml&h=519&w=415&sz=20&tbnid=bemb0cIaLWcYRM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=72&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dbackless%2Bbra%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=backless+bra&docid=VB482QE6P_ZXCM&sa=X&ei=VnqWT76CCIqphAfMsfHiDQ&ved=0CDgQ9QEwAg&dur=4423

HazleNutt · 24/04/2012 11:11

June, this is offtopic, but if you are only 5ft and slim, are you sure you should be in 34 inch bra? Sounds a bit unlikely. What is your underbust measurement? A well fitting bra will make a massive difference, especially if you want to define your waist.

June2009 · 24/04/2012 12:47

Thank you for all the suggestions, very inspired
Good point about the bra, just measured and it's just over 30"... Need to get fitted again I think!!!! No wonder they all feel too loose.
I'm off shopping, plan is to go to the mall and go into each shop and try something in each one. I have my tights and my heels with me, even a pretty necklace, this is serious. I will report back :)

I have visions of that backless bra pinging off a la Carry on Camping ...

HazleNutt · 24/04/2012 16:09

Thought so :) so if the B-cup otherwise fits, you are probably something like 30D -that does not sound like "no boobs to speak of" Wink
Stay away from M&S so-called fitting service though, most of the fitters have no idea what they are doing.

minimathsmouse · 24/04/2012 17:10

This is nice

June2009 · 24/04/2012 18:14

Yipee I bought this: m.karenmillen.com/Colourblock-dress-with-lacing/Dresses/karenmillen/fcp-product/903000057808

(after cussing them yesterday .... Oops)
It's perfect :)

I tried a white charleston looking lace thing from fatface which was lovely but a bit clingy in the middle
And a lovely feminine white dress from levis
And some other monstrosities that made me feel like I need surgery!!!!!! Viscose should be banned.

Thank you for all your advice and pointers, I still need to get fitted for a bra...

Lovely!

MoonlightandRoses · 24/04/2012 22:21

V.pretty! Also, if you like that style / colouring for dresses, then have a look out for the Derhy label they do similar sharp, but pretty, tailoring in daywear.
