Has anyone actually used home hair-dye(permanent) from <ahem> Poundland?

Just wondering if I should chance it or not? Had a mad fit and bought this yesterday in 'dark brown' but the shade on the box is more like a greyish colourConfused. My hair is short and chestnut browny colour so I am wondering if it would really matter if it goes 'tits-up' as I am very dark anyway? On the other hand, it only cost a pound so shall I just bin it and not risk it? What if it stripped my hair off or something awful like that? I dont know what possessed me to buy it really! Has anyone else tried this?

i know someone who does - with no problems other than never being quite sure about how the colour will come out! And some of them are a bit odd. Actually scrub that, they are very odd.

Ooh Starfish, do you mean odd when its done or they look an odd colour on the box?

They're probably all made from exactly the same stuff really, aren't they?
I say go for it, and report back!

Schipperke · 23/04/2012 01:31

I have used it twice and it's fine.

Georgetta · 23/04/2012 01:41

Thanks Schipperke and Kicking- might chance it after all. Will report back and let ye know!

I always use it, I go for darkest brown which is actually black but it works as well as any other hair dye I've ever used but for a fraction of the price.

Georgetta · 23/04/2012 18:40

Great stuff Stella- will definitely give it a go now! Thanks!

Mine wasn't poundland, it was Discount UK so I think it was more than a pound Grin Was fine.

I just did mine again last night with a £3 box from Aldi. Also fine. Won't be getting the pricier stuff again. A word of warning though, I also have sort of a medium to dark brown chestnutty colour and when I get anything that says 'dark brown' it seems to come out too dark. I can get away with it because my eyebrows are very dark, but it always looks a bit weird to me until it fades.

Maybe just do a strand test just to be safe?!

Georgetta · 25/04/2012 00:35

Well , I did it today and have to say it was absolutely fine. My hair came out a sort of plain, chocolatey brown which is what I was looking for . So overall, I am very pleased and will NOT be buying the pricey, big brands again. I would certainly recommend it! Thank you all for your advice because I would probably not have chanced it otherwise. As you all said above, its no different to the others really. Thanks again!

You can sometimes hit it lucky and get Schwarzkopf XXL Live ones in there, mine now has the caramel shade in that's been discontinued so I have bought a years worth Blush
