REWIND 80s Music Festival - What to Wear??!

CointreauVersial · 21/04/2012 22:46

I'm off to Rewind 80s Music Festival in August. DH went last year and said that everyone, and I mean everyone, dresses up.

What on earth am I going to wear? Any bright ideas??

AGH! What everyone dresses up?! I'm going to the Perth one. Should be fun but now will have to ponder on outfit too...

kaumana · 22/04/2012 00:01

Hmm , am thinking of what I was wearing at the time I was listening to the bands that are on the playlist. Def, double denim, some lace involved, big accessories, big hair, loads of eyeshadow and strong lips. Blush

CointreauVersial · 22/04/2012 00:09

DH said there were Freddy Mercurys, Madonnas and all sorts last year. He felt a right idiot in his jeans and hoody.

It has to be practical enough for a festival, though - no stilletos and ra-ras.

Will have to pass this news onto my festival pals. May rock the Cyndi Lauper look as Madonna may be too common Grin

kaumana · 22/04/2012 00:19

Especially as she will be playing Edinburgh on the Saturday which is not sold out but Rewind is!

CointreauVersial · 22/04/2012 00:22

We are going to the Henley-on-Thames one.

What about those lairy printed PJ trousers that are so "in" at the moment? I certainly rocked a pair of those in 1984.

Oh, the stress.

OMG mine would be a complete Human League Look.

Watch "Ashes to Ashes" for fashion ideas (I hope I've got the right one, it's the 2nd series)

White shirt/ Frankie/Relax/Wham T Shirt
Double belt
Skinny skinny lycra jeans + braces or ra-ra skirt
Tucker boots aka Pixie Boots
Fingerless gloves

Gold/Bronze eyeshadow
Blue (Navy or electric blue) eyeliner and mascara
Very strark blusher lines
Dangly earrings

kaumana · 22/04/2012 00:30

Oh yeah, I had some of those too . I really wish I had photos of my daily wear back then as I seemed to change my style as quickly as the wind depending on what was cool on that given Tuesday!

kaumana · 22/04/2012 00:37

70 Brilliant ideas! Thanks, especially re the white shirt thing, I rocked that look Wink

CointreauVersial · 22/04/2012 00:41

I think some sort of wig might be in order.......

Anything neon. I had an 80s birthday party a few years back and dressed Madonna-ish. I crimped my hair though and had it sticking out. Then had to crimp other peoples including my sister's who has loads of it! Most people dressed up and really enjoyed it.

I hope you have a great time.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/04/2012 00:45

My DS went to an 80's party a couple of years back (he would've been 10 yo at the time)

I had the most fun dressing him.
He looked brilliant (if I say so myself) He was Hmm and Blush

CointreauVersial · 22/04/2012 00:47

Ironically, DH had an 80s fancy dress party for his 40th. I did the whole neon Madonna thing, but then flogged it all on eBay, because I couldn't imagine needing it again.

But I fancy something different....

My friend goes every year and not everyone dresses up! She just wears normal clothes.

FebreezeYourJeans · 22/04/2012 11:21

I go every year and you so need to dress up; the bananrama dungaree look is quite easy and festival ish to pull off

I did this 2 years ago.

CointreauVersial · 22/04/2012 14:16

Dungarees - OMG, haven't worn those for many many years. Can you still buy them??!

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 22/04/2012 14:20

CV, my friend goes to it every year and I'm seeing her on Tues - I'll feedback to youSmile

invicta · 22/04/2012 14:27

White shirt with loose belt tied round,
T shirts/ tops etc tucked in, not loose over trousers
Neon socks
White t shirts with slogans on, 'relax' being the most common word
Shoulder pads ( think Dynasty and Dallas)
Sloane rangers( think lady di)

Ah, those were the days...

CointreauVersial · 22/04/2012 17:05

I'm quite taken with the Bananarama Dungaree idea, and have found lots of vintage clothing sellers on eBay.

Worn with one of DH's shirts with the sleeves rolled up, a cap, some neon accessories and some sort of crimped mullet hairstyle/wig??

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 22/04/2012 17:24

CV I have a photo of one of my BF's wearing that exact outfit with Coco the Clown make-up - bright blue eye-shadow, a line of bright blusher and bright red lipstick Grin

I should add, it was taken in 1983!

NicolasGirl · 22/04/2012 17:28

Now I'm worried. I went 2 years ago and didn't dress up - about 50% had so I didn't feel odd.

I'm going this year again and now I need to plan. I think Im going to have to channel my inner Madonna and get planning.

FebreezeYourJeans · 22/04/2012 18:42

I've been every year NicolasGirl and there is definitely loads more dressing up now.

CointreauVersial · 23/04/2012 00:23

BTM - let me know what your mate suggests.
