Dear High Street, why are you so anti-sleeves?

deep sigh

I'm trying to help find my mom a dress. She is nearly in her 70s, and therefore is looking for something mid calf, not tight, not low cut and with 3/4 length sleeves. I think I would be having more success if I was looking for a dress made from fairy wings. M&S - one dress in their evening/occassion wear section with sleeves and it wasn't even a dress, it was a fecking coat. Phase Eight - same story. Wallis - same story. why high street? WHY

Its because its much cheaper and quicker to produce stuff without sleeves.

If you've ever tried making anything yourself, you'll know how much of a ball-ache it is to get the sleeves in right.....

not much help i know but my Ma is having the same problem (i'm making her 10 sleeved cotton tunic tops for her hols right now!)

Ooh, that is nice. But she doesn't wear black - too harsh on her.

I now totally get why she hates shopping.

that clements dress is lovely but this t-shirt is horrendous for a bigger figure...talk about tent!

cocolepew · 20/04/2012 15:47

I was thinking the same thing today looking for tops for my 14 yo DD.

We live in NI it's always bloody cold. Floaty, chiffony vesty things just don't cut it.

ggirl · 20/04/2012 15:55

woman serving me in m&s when i was buying a cardi said same thing about sleeves

cardi's would become obselete if we had sleeves

TheDowager · 20/04/2012 17:23

Yup, high st gets to sell an extra garment (cardi, shrug, jacket) when it sells a dress without sleeves). £££

John lewis have quite a few on their website - they could do with revising their description of "mid length" but -

something here possibly?
