Bobbi Brown shimmer brick or brightening finishing powder?

Does anyone know what the difference is?
It seems the brightening powder can be used all over, but it looks a bit glittery for all over. I just want a nice healthy glow. Which is best to brighten my pale washed out face?

I use Mac Mineralize Skin Finish (the natural one, not the shimmery one - that's for highlighting) over my Mac Face & Body foundation. I've tried SO many in my quest for the best healthy glow and honestly, I wouldn't change to anything else now.

I think Shimmerbricks are for cheek highlighting, much like the shimmery version of the Mac Mineralize Skin Finish. I might be wrong but that's the impression I get.

Not sure about BBBFP I'm afraid.

I hate shimmer brick

lizzybennet · 18/04/2012 18:59

I love Mac Mineralize but it breaks me out, so I am looking for something like Mineralize which gives that nice glow but not all glittery bits. I want it to set foundation but not look powdery or like a glitter ball.

MsN why do you hate shimmer brick?

Hmm... Have you tried Nars products? Pricey but bloody good.

civilfawlty · 18/04/2012 19:07

Honestly, by a country mile, the best product I've ever used is the Rommel bronzing powder. It has no shimmer at all, and just warms my face. I have recently started using esteelauder bb tinted moisturiser and people keep telling me how well I look. Which is ironic given that I'm on a 3 hour max sleep schedule with a 13 week old baby!

MsNorbury · 18/04/2012 19:15

I didnt know that ROmmel had time DURING the desert campaign to design a range of coordinating make up

LordEmsworth · 18/04/2012 20:19

ROFL at Rommel and his desert make up artists.

The BB shimmer brick is stronger & more shimmery than the finishing powder. It has a much more noticeable effect, so if the finishing powder is too glittery for you then don't get the shimmer brick for everyday!

AuntieMaggie · 18/04/2012 20:22

You can double the shimmer brick as eyeshadows too - i love the ones i have

some are deeper in colour than others - go instore and give them a go

alwaysrunninginheels · 18/04/2012 20:24

Has anyone got the brightening powder???? It's always sold out when I try to buy it! Any good?

lizzybennet · 18/04/2012 20:56

yy has anyone actually got the brightening powder?

So the shimmer brick is for eyes and highlighting so could maybe use as a light summer blusher?? Will also check out Rommel Grin but still need some kind of setting powder that will make me look nice and fresh faced.....
I like Nars stuff so will have a look there too thanks.

I love my shimmer brick. A light dusting all over makes me look human. And when I'm more made up, I use a bit more on cheekbones. Bronzers make me look orange.

Susieloo · 18/04/2012 21:00

I love my shimmerbrick and use it everyday in the summer particularly if I've got a slight tan, I use it as an eyeshadow, blusher and highlighterSmile

willybreeder · 18/04/2012 21:11

Body shop does a great copy of Bobbi Browns shimmer brick in the rose and bronze shades, it's at least £12 cheaper.
For a finishing powder I imagine you mean a powder to set your foundation that isn't too powdery or matt? I like MAC but I use it sparingly (only on t zone)

lizzybennet · 18/04/2012 21:41

Ok will look in body shop too thanks. Yes, that's exactly what I need a powder that is not too powdery or matt. Which Mac one do you use? I really like the mineralize one but it gives me huge spots.

I think I need two separate things now! A shimmer brick and a seperate powder for all over??

I currently use BB pressed powder, plus a shimmer brick. I have bronze for summer, and rose for now. I love the shimmer brick, people notice my skin looks "glow-y" when I wear it. I am a bit sparing with it in the day time - light dusting - but at night or for photos I get a bit heavy handed. I wear it most days & feel dull when I don't!

civilfawlty · 19/04/2012 02:46

And... I'm sorry I bothered posting.

fluffylegs · 19/04/2012 06:24

When I tried the brightening powder the sales assistant looked like she had rubbed her face in butter.
Well placed shimmer can work wonders but all over glitter is bonkers. Powder is for taking shine away ( on forehead nose and cheeks)

Try Rimmels wake up foundation. It has a similar but less bonkers effect.

lizzybennet · 19/04/2012 09:34

Civil - I'm glad you posted thank you.

That was my concern with the brightening powder, all over shimmer. I think I like the sound of the shimmer brick for highlighting and will check out the Rimmel foundation. Does anyone have any good setting powder they can recommend? Thanks

They have quite a range of shimmer bricks - some have a deeper colour than others and others are more highlighting/shimmery. i have nectar which is really peachy and separately the stripes are peach and pink as eyeshadows and a light pinky beige one which isnt as deep a colour so nice when im paler and is beige and pinky peach as eyeshadows.
