Everything I can see online is too short or too tight. I am a 5ft nothing size 10/12 with chunky thights. I have got quite a small waist and a fairly flat tummy, its the bum and thigh area that is the problem. What am earth am I going to wear??

Maxi dress a la Abigails Party?

Something like this?

My folks had a 70s themed party at Christmas and I went for a Bianca Jagger-esque black jumpsuit.

Sorry, just realised that I posted the wrong link, something like this:

with a floppy hat?

Not sure about the maxi dress because I am very short!

Actually really like the gypsy top which I could wear with a pair of black flared trousers I have found on a party shop site.

Like the idea of a black jump suit but only if I can loose at least half a stone!

I so wish I had the nerve to wear something like this but I could only get away with it with opaques and I don't think that would work with a 70s theme.

And I forgot to say, its actually my (joint) 40th birthday party. I don't know who talked me into having a theme.

How about going as a punk? Rip a tee shirt up a bit, stick a few safety pins in the rips, spray on crazy colour for your hair and go mad with the make up. A quick trip to the hardware shop for some chains and you're sorted!

GColdtimer · 18/04/2012 16:04

Good idea if it wasn't my party but I think I was hoping to look a bit more glam for my 40th!

Or some satin and tat, lots of glitter, a la glam rock? My sister and cousin and their husbands went as Abba to a 70s party once; my sister made some really simple dresses, they hired white platform boots and the blokes' outfits and a long blonde wig for my cousin, and they looked great. Too many people think the 70s was all about hippies, and that makes it a bit boring as well as not very accurate.

GColdtimer · 18/04/2012 16:18

Thanks, quite like the Abba idea.

But, the question is, can I do a mini dress with chunky thighs and if so what can I do to disguise them Confused
