Title says it all really - got invited to a vairy posh wedding (black tie) at start of May and also have DH's annual work torture fest dinner the following week, which is also formal and generally full of people dressed to kill who make me feel inadequate every year. Haven't lost all the baby weight since DS2 was born in December so need a bit of a confidence boost. I've had a quick look in the shops haven't seen anything so far which I like at all.

I''m 35 (but hopefully look a bit younger), 5' 6", currently a size 12-14 and very much a pear shape, although have a bit of a wobbly tum since the babies. Have long body, waist is finally starting to become more defined now (!) and short-ish (30"") legs. Have back problem so can't wear shoes with > 1.5-2 inch heel. I have highlighted blonde hair and fair skin (think Kirsten Dunst) but will wear v light fake tan (Johnson's holiday skin type) on the occasion days. Am open to most looks but not very keen on a lot of pattern or anything in black (does nothing for me) - could be persuaded though ! Budget is up to 300-400.

Please please find something for me !! Thank you all.

Navy Whistles dress

This is really flattering, and a lovely shade of blue, think it would suit your colouring?

Sorry, not sure if that link will work. It's the Whistles Lucy Slinky dress in navy.

Black tie is still full length, right? Or can we stray into cocktail dress territory?

Red?

blue

Very flattering sort of cut anyway.

With a budget of that much you should be able to get something fab. Have you tried the lk Bennett davina dress. I find it hugely flattering-I don't even need suck you in pants on to keep the mum tum in check!

Thanks everyone - some really great suggestions.

aftereight I looove that Whistles dress - it would be perfect for the work dinner but not sure it's formal enough for the wedding. I am thinking I could justify it though as I think I could wear it to the dinner and also to DS2's christening at the end of May (where there's a will and all that...).

MrsL - I love the waist and the color of the red dress but couldn't get away without wearing a bra and I suspect that the neckline at the front is too high for me - I would get that "shelf boob" look. The blue one is nice though. I would definitely wear cocktail length (even if it is some massive breach of etiquette Smile).

Queen the Davina dress is great but more like something I would wear to work iykwim ?
