Does anybody buy Poetry clothing?

I thought I'd try a few items this year and the stuff in the catalogue sale looked nice.

Some of the cotton tops are okay, but my jumper (baby alpaca) has only been worn a few times and it looks knackered Sad It's been handwashed once and left to drip dry.

A few of the other tops/tunic are very thin and it all seems overpriced.

I'm glad I didn't pay full price for any of this stuff. Shame really because I like the way it looks and the sizing is pretty good.

Agreed - hit and miss. I have some linen tops which have lasted beautifully, and I have worn them LOTS. Other stuff shrank / bobbled / etc.

polyhymnia · 17/04/2012 11:59

Agree also. Very hit and miss. Have a couple of their printed linen knit tops from last summer which I really like and wash well, but have also had stuff whose quality didn't justify the high prices at all.

Have found the same with Wrap, who are the same company. Their pricy things look great on the site but often don't in reality.

SephoraRosebud · 17/04/2012 12:32

Agree about wrap clothes- they soon wear out and dont look as nice as in the catalogue. They seem expensive for the quality.

hiddenhome · 17/04/2012 16:55

Oh, I was wondering why I was receiving Wrap catalogues.

I daren't tell dh because he bought some of these items for me Sad The tunic is in some weird fabric (rami or something) and it crumples very easily.

I agree very hit and mix. Some of the linen mix tops areVERY thin fabric so you see your bra completely! They also wear out far too quickly for the price.
I always wait for the sale and never buy full price, they are very overpriced.

Nice colours though!

vickers79 · 03/02/2013 19:46

I've bought a few items from Poetry. I like their style and fabrics. But so far I hven't attempted to wash them!! Far too expensive though - so only buy them in the sale. I agree, also nice colours - pastel.

Klute · 02/07/2015 11:11

Never again! Very expensive and bad quality.

I ordered a T-Shirt for 80 Dollars that had pilling all over the front and looked really worn out just from wearing it once (I didn't even wash it!) They brushed off my complaint stating I couldn't send it back because I had already worn it. At first I thought it was a misunderstanding and explained again that I'm not sending it back because I don't like it, but because the quality is bad. They didn't even comment on that and sent me another invoice. Horrible attitude towards customers!

I have heard similar stories from others.Wish I had known before.

PatriciaLangham · 08/03/2017 17:39

Has anybody been to the selective marketplace sales for wrap and poetry sales in Loughborough - they usually have them in March and October but I cannot find out the dates and WRAP customer services oddly don't seem to know about them?

DressageNut · 08/03/2017 21:13

Oh, a very timely thread. I ordered two pairs of trousers and am hovering on the verge of sending them back (one for a refund on the basis that they make my arse look bigger than it is, and the other to swap for a smaller size). But not keen to take a gamble on quality as they weren't cheap. Back they go.

Eliza22 · 08/03/2017 23:08

I think it's overpriced. Years ago, I had a few of their linen dresses but I think they've gone off a bit tbh.

My Mum bought £850 worth of holiday stuff last year (on my recommendation) and they haggled over a £4.50 deliver fee. Never again. I was so cross. I gave her a code for delivery and it'd apparently expired (fair enough) but in view of her shopping spree, I couldn't believe they didn't just give her a new code/refund delivery cost.

Not for me. Not anymore.

Eliza22 · 08/03/2017 23:09

And recently, I've found their sizes all over the place, as though it's manufactured at different sites worldwide, there's no continuity.

Dancergirl · 08/03/2017 23:10

I had no idea Hush and Poetry were the same company! Although thinking about it, it does make sense, the catalogues are quite similar.

I prefer Hush although have bought the odd thing from Poetry. Agree quality is variable.

minipie · 08/03/2017 23:29

Never bought from them - I think the colours are lovely but went into their shop once and everything was really baggy and shapeless.

Eliza22 · 09/03/2017 08:56

Some of my purchases were the same item in different colours. One item washed well and I still wear regularly, 3 years later. The other was like a rag after several washes and had holes developed (linen) in the seam lines.

It's all too hit and miss for me!

Filmsroe789 · 07/10/2017 13:40

Hi, just came across your post, I know it's a bit late notice but the poetry sale is on in loughborough today!

neveradullmoment99 · 07/10/2017 19:23

Poetry and Wrap london is the same company. Dont think they are the same as Hush.

neveradullmoment99 · 07/10/2017 19:24

I have bought a few pieces. Not overly impressed. Think the price is ridiculous. Way more expensive than Hush.

LLG1602 · 10/07/2018 18:32

I have bought several pieces in the sale. The are lovely, but don’t last. Wool dresses (x2) in holes after about 6 wears, silk shirts in holes under the arms after 8-10 weeks, jumpers mishape. I really like they’re style and the fact that it’s natural fibres, but it’s rubbish quality. No more.

mekay46 · 02/07/2020 09:38

Horrified to find that 2 pairs of trousers I have just bought from Poetry have been made in China. I do hope they are stopping this sorce of manufacture in view of not only the Corona virus fiasco but also their treatment of Hong Kong. No use supporting a very nasty and vicious regime in this way.

Inkpaperstars · 04/07/2020 14:36

I have had some clothes from poetry and wrap over the years and had no problems with the quality or durability of anything. That said they have become increasingly overpriced and I have tried on some linen tops that did not seem great quality.

Debviolet · 07/06/2024 18:57

Hi, ex-Poetry/Wrap customers!
Any dissatisfied Poetry or Wrap customers know of a good substitute? Offering similar-style clothes either less over-priced and/or in more substantial fabrics than the Poetry and Wrap stylings?
Debviolet

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/06/2024 20:13

I have done, and still do occasionally, but it’s very expensive and too much of it needs hand washing - who can be bothered?

All AFAIK natural fibres, though.
A few years ago I did buy a couple of ‘hot weather’ long cotton dresses which are brilliant - pure cotton, in a sort of seersucker type material - machine wash and hang up, no ironing! 🙂
Pricey, though. 🙁
