White Company summer range and especially this maxi dress...

I've seen quite a few things I want. Anyone bought anything from the range yet? I love this particularly...

But I'm a short arse and think it probably only works for taller people - even if I get it shortened.

What is their sizing like?

Don't know about their sizing, YM, but love that dress! I really like the short version too..... :)

Yorkshiremother79 · 15/04/2012 18:23

I'm wondering about which to order...tempted by the short one instead too as it's probably better for someone my height. But then it won't cover my legs which I hate!

I have been eyeing that one too - lovely.

I think based on other purchases size is true maybe a little generous.
My sister had a very similar navy maxi and looked lovely - she is approx 5 .5 and was not too long - hope that helps!

BensonBunny · 15/04/2012 19:02

I have the short version in a small (I'm a 12) and it is lovely but quite low at the front, I wore it with a vest underneath the other day and that worked well.

Gigondas · 15/04/2012 19:06

Liveinpresent that does help as have been think g about that dress

Yorkshiremother79 · 15/04/2012 19:36

Benson - would it be too baggy if one is not very well-endowed up top? And also would it look odd with leggings underneath (don't like exposing my milk bottle white legs if I can avoid it!

I find their sizing fairly accurate. I am an 8-10 and always end up with a size small. the XS is too tight across the bust. Having said that some of their loose smocky type tunics come up big- but not the dresses with fitted busts/waists.

That dress is nice but the neckline looks very revealing- maybe okay for hols but I wouldn't wear if for every day wear.

Yorkshiremother79 · 15/04/2012 21:13

I think I'm going to leave ordering it and wait until I can get to one of the stores and try it on instead

This thread is now quoted in Mumsnet swearsby but I haven't ordered the dress yet - will be so annoyed if it goes out of stock due to a rush of MNers ordering before me!

OP posts:
Belo · 18/04/2012 17:26

That makes you wonder how the swears by products are selected... Is this the only discussion on that dress? I wonder if a 'contribution' towards mumsnet is made by certain retailers if there products get chosen!

cazza40 · 18/04/2012 17:33

Agree Belo - not that impressed that such a brief discussion would make this dress a swears by item - but the the White Company do have advertising banners on this site don't they ?

Yorkshiremother79 · 18/04/2012 20:04

Some of you were quoted I think so I doubt that it was from another thread really.
Good point about it being a bit of a limp 'swears by' recommendation and a little suspicious!

Liz Earle Protect and Perfect or something like the Elemis creams, I can get but not something one person (me) saw and one other had bought!

Explanation of how it's compiled here:

Don't normally do this but saw the posts, shopped today and bought the maxi version. It is gorgeous, slimming, sexy and comfortable.

crazyspaniel · 20/04/2012 08:27

I have this dress too, it's lovely. Am 5'6" and it's just the right length, very long but not sweeping the floor.

BensonBunny · 20/04/2012 21:28

I've been away and was quite suprised to come home and find my name at the top of the swears by email! Does that make me a proper mumsnetter rather than mostly a lurker now?

Yorkshire - I'm a 34DD, the dress is snug in the chest area but I've no idea what it would be like on a smaller chest, if you can get to a shop with them in I would (I've only ever been in their Bicester Village store which had a very limited clothing selection so tend to order online).
