Why do linen trousers stretch so damn much?

Upon realising I have been looking a bit of a mess generally of late, I recently purchased a pair of fine black linen trousers that make me look reasonably stylish, for the first hour of wearing anyway. These ones here.

However over the course of the day they seem to stretch more and more until they are hanging under my most unattractive post baby belly and generally not fitting at all.

Am I doing something wrong here?

I buy a size too small, then they grow to fit me. Never fails!

I also find linen trousers gradually get shorter every every day. Irrevocably so. No solutions I'm afraid! I buy a new pair every summer and every summer oxfam gains a new pair...

No, you're not doing nothing wrong. Bloody linen trousers. I love 'em but wish they wouldn't stretch.

Do you think I should take them in so they look a bit tight on, then?

Why do French women always look so nice in them, then?

French women are genetic anomolies, in general.

Linen is a hollow fibre, so only good for towels, bath or tea, in my opinion.

Some very thick very tailored and normally very expensive linen trousers may work but in my opinion the stretchiness/softness of the fabric is why they are generally unflattering.

Bugger.
I think I tried on some Hartnell ones in a past life that were monumentally thick and lined, and they certainly would have held their shape, but they were about £400 20 years ago. My £50 Laura Ashley ones aren't going to be in that league really, are they.

25% of my genes are French, btw. Obviously my hip and thigh genes came from the other 75%. Sad
