Following the discussion below for the lady with thick dark hair, any ideas for mine? It been the same for thirty years! I would love something trendy but am a hair wimp. I like these fringe things going on at the mo. I am 33, and have limp, fine, blond hair. My first ever thread started!!

My hair is fine - I like layers in mine

Are you in London, peachypips? If you are I can recommend my hairdresser, who will transform your hair. He's a brilliant stylist/cutter generally but is road-tested (by me) for making fine hair look lovely.

John @ Johnny's, Chatworth Road, Clapton.

I used to have mine cut in a graduated fall around my face but last time I saw him I realised I was just very bored with that. So I said: "Please, just do something. Make it look thicker. Make it look nice. And please keep it as long as you can." And he's done it. It really does look good. Which is a triumph of artistry over materials, frankly.

animula · 12/04/2012 20:26

Honestly, he's so good, I trekked from deepest South London for a cut.

DollyTwat · 12/04/2012 20:33

I have mine in a short bob
It's naturally poker straight so no straightening! I do have a Big Hair thing which gives it a bit of v

Bum I live in Devon!! Only flippin crap hairdressers down here! Maybe that's half the problem.

Volume

Stupid iPhone DONE Button!!

headfairy · 12/04/2012 20:35

I have fine limp blonde (ish) hair and I find having it coloured makes a big difference to the way it hangs. It really makes it feel thicker and fuller. I have highlights, some tinted and some bleached, just to lift the colour but also to add some volume.

Any thoughts re fringes?

Depends on how much hair you have. Obviously, the more hair you have in your fringe, the less you'll have elsewhere. Fringes are great, and pretty cool, imo, but you do keep having to have them trimmed. I was tempted to get a fringe last visit but decided against on grounds of knowing I'd find the maintenance hard work.

peachypips · 12/04/2012 21:21

Hum. I have very little hair. Hadn't thought about the fact that it would take hair from elsewhere... May end up with JUST a fringe and no actual hair left...

Grin I did turn up once and ask John to turn me into Pixie Lott (yes, I know). He explained to me very gently, and very diplomatically, that it might not quite go the way I dreamed.

PerryCombover · 12/04/2012 22:14

Nice thread!
My hair is naturally like Dolly's. I have it all the same length to my shoulder.
I do daft things to the front of it to make it more edgy (hollow laugh) mutton.

You can put a bit of hairspray on your fingertips and rub into the roots with your hair upside down
Some of that dry hair shampoo can make it thicker looking and give it more texture Think Kate Moss (probably more Patsy on me)
A fringe on me as a disaster but I do it every 5 yrs or so and it's always the same

PerryCombover · 12/04/2012 22:15

Ooo also I've dyed it ginge now and it looks the same but ginge ( booooo)

flipflopflap · 12/04/2012 22:35

I have fine hair and the absolute best thing I have ever done is have it all cut the same length. Doesn't really work if it's in a very short bob as it can look like triangle hair! But mines shoulder length and looks so much better than when it had layers. John Freida thickening blow dry spray and a big hair also work wonders.

DollyTwat · 13/04/2012 00:50

Agree on the highlighting
I have to have mine done regularly or when my roots show it needs washing every day as it looks greecy (sp)
I hate my hair

Tranquilidade · 13/04/2012 01:00

Mine is dark but very fine. I have it shortish with more volume up near the top IYSWIM and tapering in to my neck, it flops if not sprayed almost rigid. Also have highlights in the front which helps.

peachypips · 13/04/2012 13:13

Oohhh some good ideas thanks!! My hair is highlighted and you are right it defo helps with volume. Interesting about the layers- mine has been layered for ages and the ends always look so straggly- I will get it cut all one length!!!
