Urgently need to book but haven't had one in ages... can you recommend me anywhere good that won't tango me or stick me in an automated booth Hmm

Thank you!

Have a search on wahanda - they have reviews. I went to a great place just off regent st but can't remember the name. Maybe soho salon? Sorry!

There's Strip (waxing bar) on Berwick Street in Soho...I've been there before for their 'paraben-free' South Seas tan...done by a lady in a tiny downstairs shower while you adopt all the customary ludicrous positions. it was good ? no streaks, but not as dark/chestnutty as St Trop and didn't last as long. I did, however, buy the tan extender and it was really good as a gradual tanner.

Then there's the Mystic Tan booth in the Tanning Shop on Mortimer Street (just a few roads behind Topshop)...I know you said no automated booth but for my money the Mystic Tan is the most even and realistic of them all (and I've had a few) and less likely to streak than a hand-sprayed one, but they don't last long - good for a wedding or special occasion but not much cop for 2 wks in the Maldives. They are brilliant - non-smelly, non-greasy and in 4 different colours so you won't look as if you've been tangoed. I've never actually been to the Tanning Shop but I use the Mystic booth in Heidi Klein in Westbourne Grove all the time and I think it's brilliant.

If you're feeling flush, go to James Read in the Agua Spa in the Sanderson Hotel ? he's the self-tanning king, beloved of bronzed celebs & glossy magazine beauty editors. Apparently his tans are amazing but pricey. He even has his own website: www.thetantalist.com. Yes, really.

Good luck and let me know if you find anywhere amazing!

Thank you very much, really appreciate the advice bluebird and belle - was just about to go to a St Trop place but will avoid if they do overly dark tans! Do NOT want to look tangoed Just want a light glow... will ring Strip and if they can't fit me in I will just get over my booth prejudice and give the Mortimer St Tanning Shop a go Smile

I was just about to reply and also recommend Strip.
I've had tans done there and they always turn out really well.

belle just back from my beach holiday and can give you a massive thank you snog for suggesting the mystic tan thingy, it was my only option as I'd left it so late Blush(will go to strip next time) but it turned out brilliantly... was quick and cheap but the best thing was it wasn't at all sticky like the spray tans I remember... really wasn't bad at all. I resisted the Wotsit-coloured woman on reception's suggestion to go medium and chose light; it gave me a lovely light golden colour that I really loved - wouldn't be dark enough for some I would imagine but I just wanted subtle glow Grin

It was great to do it at the start of the holiday as it stopped me feeling hideously pale and overdoing it in the sun on those first few days, and by the time it wore off I'd built up a bit of colour without getting sunburnt.... very happy to be the colour of a Biscuit and not a Angry

I read this post a few days ago and can now also vouch for mystic spray tan in the tanning shop in Mortimer street - I wonder if they've had an influx of business from mnetters?! I went for 'glow' as was my first ever spray tan, and also because I'm really pale normally- and a lovely glow it was. I might try the light one next time. Grin

Hello ladies...so glad you have all benefitted from the marvellous tanning miracle that is Mystic Tan...honestly, I should be on commission, have recommended it to so many people! Nature, thanks for massive thank-you snog, much appreciated Wink. Rae, I had a Glow myself the other day, more out of curiosity than anything else, but also cos I was going to an 18th birthday party and didn't want to turn up looking like a wrinkly old 40-something who'd been tangoed, and it was really good. Excellent winter tan, I think, but light better now at this time of year, so def try that next time. Ah, so glad it all worked out well Smile!
