think ill go into the local shops to get the kind of idea of what dress would suit my shape may have been a sign that the halter neck wouldnt suit lol

Trying them on is the most fun bit!
Get H2B to look after the kids and go with your mum or a girlfriend - take a camera phone but be subtle - some places get antsy re copyright etc.
Try on as many types as you can lay your hands on (strapless, with sleeves, slim skirt, full skirt etc) - you may be surprised what suits you!

Have a great time - I wish I could do it all over again!

oh no! I'm sorry! It went for £41 and with p&p to pay as well I think you'd be better off in the sales.
