Never worn skinny jeans before, have I bought the wrong kind?

I have lost lots of weight, gone from an 18-20 to an 8-10 over the last 18 months. I'm starting to get my confidence back and am trying to experiment with clothes again now that I fit into things better, I'm 30.

I found skinny jeans that I like in Dorothy Perkins but they are called Ultra Stretch Superskinny. I think they look ok and my DH thought they were ok (and the younger than me women I spoke to in the changing room Blush ) but they are quite tight and I don't know if I've inadvertently chosen really, really skinny jeans and I should have tried something else first.

The women in the changing room were really lovely and seeing that I was looking a bit unsure said they liked them. I said they were quite tight and they said get the size you can just wrestle yourself into and they will stretch to become more comfortable. Are they right?

I've come home with these www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33053&storeId=12552&productId=4008193&langId=-1&categoryId=&searchTerm=superskinny&pageSize=20 in a 8R, though I was going to get them in the 10R. Will they give a bit because they are pretty tight!

Also, I was planning to wear them with ballet flats is that ok? I don't ever wear heels, well, only for weddings anyway!

Ladies, should I be brave and wear them or have I bought jeans that only skinny teenagers should wear and maybe I should take them back?

To me they are fine, I have 2 pairs very similar. If you are unsure at first wear them with longer tunic style tops along with your ballet flats. In winter I wear mine with flat boots, also managed a pair of heeled ankle boots this year and they made my legs look really long and thinner. I am similar size to you, well actually am a 10 who kids herself she is really still an 8!
Congratulations on your weight loss you must feel great when you wear clothes like these which really show your achievement off Smile

ruby22 · 09/04/2012 20:01

oh btw you have indeed chosen the skinniest kind but I think you'll be happy with them and they're def not just for teenegers!

BusPantsOn · 09/04/2012 20:09

Thanks, I liked them but they are just so very different to what I am used to wearing I just can't make the judgement about whether they are ok or not.

I had tried some on that were more jeans like rather than skinny skinny but they were tight on my calves, not tight on my thighs and baggy on my waist. These super skinny ones were more stretchy and just seemed to fit everywhere at the same time.

I went for the 8 assuming they will stretch a bit, will they? The 10 were great on in the changing room but the woman I was chatting with said that within a week they would have stretched and be too big for me. I'm not sure if I'm going to get stuck with tight jeans I can never wear or in a day around the house in them with stretch them to fit me like she said they would.

Style Thanks for that, I'll have a look at those blogs. Its been so long since I have felt able to wear fashionable clothes and fashion has really changed so I feel a little clueless.

I feel a little silly buying and wearing nice clothes if I'm honest, I'm so used to not feeling deserving of them because I felt so low being overweight. But I think feeling good in clothes will give me the motivation to keep the weight off and stay slimmer and healthier.

I'm a bit worried going out in new style clothes too, people might think I'm trying to make more of myself than I am?

Wow well done!! How on earth have you lost that? Grin

Anyone that thinks like that is an idiot and best avoided [busmile]
Congratulation on the weight loss - that is a brilliant achievement and should be celebrated by the wearing of gorgeous, new, tight fitting clothes! [buwink]
Def keep the skinnies - they will stretch, promise x

BusPantsOn · 09/04/2012 20:27

Rusmum Thanks. I started off with some old slimming world books from years ago that a friend had hanging around and lost the first 2 stone, then I switched to using myfitnesspal on my laptop but it was a faff so bought a smartphone to use for it and lost another 2.5 stone. Lost 4 stone 8lbs now. I don't trust my scales at home so I weigh myself on the scales in Boots each week to keep track of how I'm doing.

BusPants you must have lost an awful lot am guessing around or above 3 stone so who would knock you for wanting to show it off?!? Your new different shape means you have to buy new clothes, so what if you try new styles. As you said originally this is more about getting your confidence back than anything else. Also forgot to say my fave superskinny jeans are the Next indigo ones which for some reason are softer than the black ones they make, they are soo soft and comfy, I bought an 8 but they also make them in a 6 as Next sizing is rather generous.

franke · 09/04/2012 20:30

I think as long as they're not horrendously uncomfortable they should be fine.

But really, well done on the weight loss - you must feel on top of the world Smile

BusPantsOn · 09/04/2012 20:34

StyleGuile I love your blog! One of your photos on the beach has skinny jeans with converse, I wouldn't have tried that but it looks great.

Bus, you could also look at www.wearingittoday.blogspot.de/ for some inspiration.

BusPantsOn · 09/04/2012 20:59

Thanks Franke I'll go and have a look at that too. Glad I started this post now, its given me lots of links to go and have a look at to try to see what my style could be because at the moment I don't really have a clue!

BusPants you just go and have fun with your clothes! Happy to help any time you need it and glad that you like the converse. V practical with the children!

BusPantsOn · 09/04/2012 21:13

Naaa, go to Zara they have everything Grin

BusPantsOn · 09/04/2012 21:33

I haven't ever stepped in a Zara, it looks too intimidating! Haven't been brave enough for River Island or TopShop yet either. I feel too much of a fraud. I could try to have a shopping trip without the children and get dressed so I feel confident and then try them out maybe.

I only go in Dorothy Perkins and Next really at the moment Blush. I think there is no hope!

OP posts:
franke · 09/04/2012 21:41

There's plenty of hope. At size 8-10, aged 30 and solvent you are Zara's dream custy. You totally belong in that shop. Have a look at their website to build up your courage Smile

daimbardiva · 10/04/2012 12:06

Amazing, well done you, you should be really proud of yourself. I bet you loOk fab in yoUr jeans. I actually feel a bit teary about how well you've done. And yes the jeans will stretch, I've been disappointed in the past when I've bought too big and they've gone all baggy

BusPantsOn · 10/04/2012 13:26

Thanks guys, the good comments on this thread have given me a bit of a confidence boost to go and try a few different things. I want to look nice and have some pride in how I look because I didn't for a long time but its all down to confidence, actually being able to wear new style clothes out and not thinking everyone is going to laugh!
