Winter wedding outfit (for a guest not the bride!!:))

I've been invited to my friends' wedding at the end of the year and was just thinking about what sort of outfit I could wear.

I then realised that all but one wedding I've ever been to have been in the Summer. The only Winter wedding I've been to was my sister's and I was a bridesmaid so doesn't count!

I'm a size 18 and don't really do bare legs...would much prefer trousers.

Any suggestions?

I agree, if you dont normally wear skirts or dresses there is nop oint in trying them for the first time at a big event, you will just feel self conscious, even though you might look fine IYSWIM.

Trousres can be great look for a wedding, you just need to find soem that dont look like you have come straight from work.so thats no to black tailored trousers, black shoes and a nice blouseGrin

You've got AGES yet- bad time of year to be buying winter stuff- why not wait till nearer the time

The only one I've ever been to I wore a plum skirt suit with a long full skirt and long boots. It was a good buy for me though as I wear (usually trouser) suits for work and this skirt with boots was almost as easy as wearing trousers for work, so I got loads of wear out of it.

Kristina - I have been known to wear just-below-the-knee skirts to summer weddings before and sometimes in the winter with thick tights and knew high boots but wasn't sure if this combo would work for a wedding.

Cybbo - I have to think about it now because it will take me ages to find something I feel comfortable in hopefullysomethinginthesales.

Freeforall - hadn't thought of a long skirt suit...I'll start googling!

I think smart boots and skirt / dress would be great for a winter wedding
