Metronidazole for rosacea and acne

Hi there, does anyone have any experience of using metronidazole for rosacea and acne? I've been using it twice daily for almost 2 weeks now and my skin is not one tiny bit better. I'm sick of looking so awful :( should I give it longer to work? Don't want to take oral antibiotics as I'm still BFing, and also TTC. Any advice very gratefully received! X

IMO the cream only helps a little - you need the oral antibiotics for a marked difference, although that takes 6-8 weeks to start to improve.

I am using the Rosex cream at the moment - it's kept my Rosacea at bay for a while, but now I am having a really bad attack, and I know I need to go back for oral antib's - and I am already dreading the other side effects. Sad

The cream didn't work for me the tablets did though I'm also currently bf x

manky (I don't want to call you that!!!) I'm sorry you're having a bad time with it at the moment :( it really sucks doesn't it? Really affects my self confidence.

meme that's really interesting as the doc said I basically couldn't have any tablets unless I gave up BFing! As I'm TTC though I'm really keen not to take anything. But that leaves me with just the metronidazole which so far seems to be doing absolutely nothing for me! Bah!

I think it can take up to a month for the gel to work.

I was prescribed this by my doctor and felt it had a little improvement but then another doctor said it was useless. Not tried oral tablets - let us know how you get on ,

I've been using Metro-cream for a couple of months now. I have to admit that I do forget to use it some days but really I am not seeing any effect. I'm not keen on taking oral antibiotics so have been looking into other topical treatments. There is gel called Finacea which seems to get good results so I think I am going to ask my GP about that. Apparently Finacea can have excess facial hair as a side effect though - wonderful.

I have rosacea and it clears the pimples, but it doesn't make any difference to the redness. I can only use it in short bursts as it really dries my skin out. I have the oral anti-bs in the cupboard as I was waiting to finish breastfeeding before taking them. I finished breastfeeding a few months ago now, but still haven't plucked up the courage to use them!

I have been using Metronidazole for about 3 months now and there is definately a marked improvement. I used to have to wear 2 layers of double wear to look vaguely presentable but now just get away with some BB cream and a little of Benefit Bluff Dust. I think it takes time and just don't expect it to go completely.
