Have always loved the look. Was in Clarks MEN'S dept buying school shoes for s1 when I saw women's beige ones. Or tan rather.
Tried on. Liked I think. Note all young UBS wearing loafers. Look nice with skinnies.
Then I thought " shit, do these look a bit coach trip ?"

What do you think.

I've got a pair of black patent ones. I only wear them with smart cropped black trousers. I like to think I look slightly French Grin

I would wear tan ones with a long chiffon pleated skirt. In fact, I may need to buy a pair to go with one in my wardrobe!

I probably would avoid wearing them with 'plain' jeans, unless they were turned up in a slightly 1950's style.

MsNorbury · 01/04/2012 09:59

Oh. Not with skinnies? Dark.
Hmm.

Personally, no, not on me. I have long skinny legs & think I would look like Olive Oyle! I just think you need to see the ankle in order to stop the foot looking too long and skinny. To stop the proportions from looking 'L' shaped IYKWIM?

noddyholder · 01/04/2012 10:33

Don't have to be young Have had mine since the 80s and have worn recently with turned up skinnies. Ds wears them too he is 17!

yes they're a classic
as are penny loafers...used to wear them in 80's with an actual penny in them

HappyGirlNow · 01/04/2012 15:17

Tan tasselled loafers look Fantastic with dark skinnies. Go for it.

emsyj · 01/04/2012 15:40

Tasselled loafers are one of those things that make me and then almost pass out from the fugly. I actually find it really hard to believe that anyone would like or wear that look, but clearly lots of people think it's nice! It puts me in mind of an older lady on a cruise (teamed with navy jacket).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/04/2012 16:36

I've been trying to buy the Clarks ones for weeks but the four is too big for me and none of the three branches I've tried have had a three and a half in stock. DD (17) has been wearing loafers since Sept and looks lovely in them. I thought they might be nice for work with 7/8ths trousers.

Those ones WIT wears are VILE - they actually make me feel sick.

MsNorbury · 01/04/2012 16:38

The WIT girl is so pretty she'd look good in anything.
She's obsessed with neon pink abd cockney Sparra slippers.

I've had a hankering for cherry red penny loafers with rolled-up skinnies lately. Not indulged as yet.

noddyholder · 01/04/2012 17:18

Blimey remus really they make you feel sick?

granule · 01/04/2012 17:20

MsNorbury · 01/04/2012 17:21

Likey. I have some dark red block heeled loafers for work. Kids love em

MadameMessy · 01/04/2012 17:24

No no no no no no no no! Loafers should not be worn in public.
On all my care of the elderly placements the big fat men who couldn't lace their shoes wore them.
No again!
