Buying a Mulberry from Ebay??

lilaloves · 30/03/2012 20:23

I've been looking at buying a Mulberry bag for a while now,was going to wait for summer sales but was browsing ebay tonight and found a bag with pics of origianl receipt, etc

Does this mean its more likely to be genuine or do they make fake receipts too??!!! This is all new to me.

I really don't want to end up with a fake but the price saving of buying 2nd hand is tempting.Help?

People do sell genuine designer bags on e-bay. I've sold genuine high end designer bags that just don't fit in with my lifestyle now, you don't get much use from a Fendi baguette in the park/mum's day out at the local coffee shop (where I socialise these day!)

SnapesOnAPlane · 30/03/2012 20:32

hmm...
I have no idea whether they can actually make fake receipts, but pictures can certainly be faked, a receipt photoshopped in and such.
I'd be very very wary tbh. So many bags on ebay are fake.

GoblersKnob · 30/03/2012 20:33

Do you know enough to know if it is a fake? If you get it and it is you should be able to get a refund pretty easily.

suebfg · 30/03/2012 20:33

I wouldn't risk it but I've bought unwittingly bought a fake from Ebay before and there was nothing I could do about it.

Decameron · 30/03/2012 20:36

I've sold designer bags on eBay too. Ask for lots of photos if they haven't been provided, ask for the serial number on the brass disc. You can have the bag authenticated on The Purse Forum. They are very good at spotting fakes.

MrsApplepants · 30/03/2012 20:40

I adore mulberry bags and they are my pride and joy! Personally, I wouldn't buy one (or what claims to be one) on ebay it would be too much risk; for me, the doubts would spoil the pleasure of owning it.
I save up and only buy a mulberry from the mulberry shops, their own website or reputable department store, eg John Lewis. Probably not what you wanted to hear, sorry!

They do have a factory store where the bags are discounted though, can't remember where it is but it is in the middle of nowhere! You just turn up a and choose from what they have on the day, not so good if you are after a specific bag.
Enjoy your mulberry, you won't regret it, they are fab!!

prepschoolreject · 30/03/2012 20:43

Can you get to Bicester?

Mulberry have a FABULOUS outlet place there. I got a GORGEOUS slouchy number there for £150!!!!

I'm sure there are a fair number of 'real' bags on Ebay, but I wouldn't be too keen to part with cold hard cash just in case!

lilaloves · 30/03/2012 20:55

No we are miles from any of the outlets/factory shops but I believe they do post out too.

I think I'm going to hold out and buy from a Mulberry store,It will give me peace of mind that its genuine.

As somoone said my fearof it beig fake may spoil using it.

The ebay seller has pics of original receipt(purchased shepton Mallet factory)

Has pics of hardwear disc withs serial numbers, but I'm afraid this still doesnt mean much to me
.I suppose I just don't know what Im supposed to be looking out for.

The site Decameron linked to is great for identifying fake bags.
Just sign up, join and post asking someone for their opinion. If it's fake, they'll descend on it like vultures :o, they really know their bags.

SnapesOnAPlane · 30/03/2012 20:59

Post the link on that forum, I mean. Then they can see it and judge for you.

prepschoolreject · 30/03/2012 21:00

Hmm.. What else are they sellling? what's their feedback like? FWIW, Shepton Mallett sounds genuine as do the serial number discs.

I have loads of Mulberry bags and have often thought about selling them (but now I have a DD, I am keeping them all for her)

Mulberry stuff, I feel, has a timeless quality.

JasperJohns · 30/03/2012 21:05

I sold a Mulberry on eBay.

I was inundated with questions - serial number on tag was most popular.

Ponyphysio · 30/03/2012 21:10

I bought a Bayswater off ebay - hologram on tag, serial number on disc, receipt and dust bag - still found out it was fake when the catch broke :( :( Cheshire Oaks at Ellesmere Port also have an outlet store if that helps

happybubblebrain · 30/03/2012 21:14

Sounds genuine to me. Everything I've bought on ebay has been genuine, so far.

lilaloves · 30/03/2012 21:19

Well have had a little look back on their selling history and they sold a bayswater last week too, alarm bells ringing slightly.
The buyer of that bag also said she was promised the original tags but did not get them

.Better to steer clear I think.

I bought a Louis Vuitton bag on Ebay, checked everything out as much as poss and all sounded good. Seller said it was an unwanted gift.

When it arrived it was obviously fake as lining was really tacky. She took it back but I had to pay postage so was still out of pocket
