I need a suit for occaisional trips to court for work. I have zero budget so cheap as possible.
I'm 5ft , size 16 ish.

Supermarkets are probably your best bet if you really need cheap. Mark and spencer are good value for money. You will need a dark colour for court, and try to find something with some natural fibre as the poly ones can look as cheap as they actually are. HTH!

HJisgoingtogoBOOM · 24/03/2012 19:23

Stupid question but How do you know which jacket/trousers go together?

OP posts:
NorthernNumpty · 24/03/2012 19:26

Go for a true suit. It will be displayed together, jackets on top rail trousers and skirts to match below in general. I wouldn't try to match up trousers with a jacket if not a suit, not if it's for court, safest bet is an actual 'meant to be together' suit. Especially if you are unsure.

You could be lucky just now there are sales on. You might get a good brand at supermarket prices

Tesco didn't show them together online.

Will look at Debehams now

Next sale on so you may get something cheap there.

They often do a jacket with matching trousers and skirt so you can make 2 suits effectively.

Pompbear · 24/03/2012 19:39

Debenhams is good for cheap suits and they do short legs too

HJisgoingtogoBOOM · 24/03/2012 19:40

Nooooo don't make me think I need it for more than a day at a time Shock Grin

Debenhams showed things by item too. Not good at clothes shopping at all online.

Just realised I'll need a shirt too. I don't even have a light coloured bra. This is getting expensive!

OP posts:
NorthernNumpty · 24/03/2012 19:55

Don't bother with shirt wear a fine knit jumper or tshirt underneath. I am in court most days and never wear a shirt - too much ironing!

mablemurple · 24/03/2012 20:00

What about Ebay? Just search BNWT (brand new with tag) and whatever size you are.

racingheart · 24/03/2012 20:01

I saw some fitted suit style jackets for about £35 and matching trousers for about £25 in Next last week. That's pretty cheap for a suit.

HJisgoingtogoBOOM · 24/03/2012 20:33

T-shirt I can do.

Dorothy Perkins petite range is pretty good for cheap suits for us shorter folk. I had a look on the website the other day and they don't seem to have much at the moment though! Don't know if there's maybe more in store.

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 24/03/2012 21:59

Matalan do a great black suit for about £30-ish.

HJisgoingtogoBOOM · 25/03/2012 09:29

Ooh Matalan I have one of those nearish (20 miles away).

OP posts:
FauxFox · 25/03/2012 09:39

ASDA
jacket £16
trousers £12
shirt £8
nude bra £4

£40 - all done! Grin

hazchem · 25/03/2012 10:42

If there is one near you try TX Maxx for suits. I have brought most of my suits there for years. I can normally get a really good suit for under £40.

HJisgoingtogoBOOM · 25/03/2012 12:29

Thanks!

Been to Matalan this am , not a lot in right sizes/matching. Only one in black & didn't fit well at all.
