Summer capsule for tall size 16/18

I really need some help with some holiday essentials. Going to Thailand next weekend and have nothing to wear. I am not girly, I am casual, tall and can't stand my knees or upper arms. T shirts are ok but vests are not unless something over them. Since I have put on weight I find it really hard to make good choices with clothes and gravitate towards linen drawstring trousers and baggy linen shirts which make me look bigger. I have an 8 year old and 5 year old who would love me to stop moaning about what to wear!

I see stylish larger women all the time so I know it's possible. Any advise greatly appreciated.

I'll bump for you as I would love the same advice!

I know you are not girly -- but have you considered dresses?

The 1.99 H&M one may be a way to dip your feet into the water -- but if you order see if they do express shipping as I ordered on Monday and I'm still waiting for my H&M ordere although they say they shipped on Tuesday.

There are some great dresses at Very, I just bought a couple for a trip we have planned at Easter.

Id get some trousers you can roll up chino style and some strappy tops

woopsidaisy · 23/03/2012 07:33

What about some cropped jeans or trousers? Good selection here.
There are lots of things at Long Tall Sally.
I've got some nice long things from Tall Girls too.
And boden have some longer line tops too.

I am the same size as you but a shorter version Grin. I have just done a big spring/summer shop and this is what I got:-

Black dress

Jersey blazer for evenings

Green casual dress which I team with a wide brown belt

Jumper

Denim jacket

Navy linen trousers

Dark jeans

One like this but navy with white stripes

This in black

White pumps

Comfy flip flops

Then 3 fitted t shirts (black, red and white), a long sleeved stripy tshirt, black wedges, gold t-bar flat sandals.

I also want to get a nice white shirt and a skirt from somewhere and hopefully that will do me :)

Mine is based on a pear shape figure so if you are an apple it might not work as well but you get the idea. I got most of it in the sale and on ebay so not crazily expensive.

Sorry that's the navy one

I prefer to add colour with the accessories so have kept it all simple.

I also bought 3 of the H&M £1.99 dresses and they would be good for holidays. Can you get away with a nice maxi dress for the day time? It will keep you cool and looks lovely on some people.

Wow, thank you so much. I thought I hadn't had any replies so only just checked again. I am going to try everything you have suggested. Any further suggestions would also be great!

AngryFeet, I love that stripey dress! Can I ask whether it skims the tummy or clings? In fact, I love your whole wardrobe!

AngryFeet · 25/03/2012 21:30

Cheers twirl :) It doesn't cling and the stripes help to cover up and lumps and bumps it seems as I tried a plain version and it wasn't as flattering. Nice soft material too.
