How do you curl your hair with straighteners?

I am clueless and tried this morning to no avail!

Surely curling your hair with them defeats the point of them

Wow, thanks for this. I wanted to know how to do this but the video's Ive found were never idiot proof enough for me. I realise after watching this that one of the reasons I cant do it, is because my layers are too short! I didnt realise you had to wrap it round twice. But should I ever manage to grow my layers out enough I shall know what to do!!!! I mainly straighten mine but there are times when I feel like a change - something a bit softer.
