What to wear with yellow?

I need help! I have a wedding to go to in a couple of weeks, and have just dug a lovely Calvin Klein dress out of my wardrobe. I bought it in America a couple of years ago, but never actually wore it. I'd like to wear it to this wedding, but I have absolutely no idea how to accessorise yellow.

The dress is a very pale yellow with a slightly darker lemon yellow sash (the dress is actually two layers, a base in the darker yellow and a mesh overlay in white/pale cream which makes the over all look paler. probably not a million miles from this shade : octoviana.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/short-yellow-cocktail-dress.jpg

Can anyone suggest how to accessorize it? it's not my normal colour as I am quite pale, dark hair, pink cheeks and so tend towards bolder colours, but it's very flattering shape wise so I'd love to make it work somehow.

You sound like a winter so you need to contrast the yellow with something cooler. Light chalky or pastel blue would look stunning, definitely near your face eg hat/shrug/scarf/fascinator. Or maybe a mix of ice creamy pastels eg blue hat, lilac necklace, pale pink handbag, pistachio shoes - one of each, keeping the warmer colours away from your face.

Have a look here too: www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/colour-club/the-seasons-109 I would get a second opinion from a stylish that the yellow definitely doesn't look awful on you and contemplate ebaying it if does!

I am pretty sure I am a winter, so need to dress it carefully! It has quite a deep scoop neck so isn't too close to my face thankfully which helps a lot. It's also not too warm a shade despite being yellow based, I think because of the white overlay. I was wondering about either pale blue or a lilac/violet shade so will give both of those a try, thanks.

but don't forget that winters are bolder than summers, you have access to some fabulous deep colours too. Royal Purple could look fabulous with yellow - it is right opposite it on the colour wheel. More subtle would be charcoal grey. Winter yellow is acid, but from what you say, the paler overlay mat achieve this look. Good luck.

I may give the purple a try - trip to the shops with the dress called for I think. I do tend towards strong, bold colours normally which is why I am struggling a little with this one. Really want to make it work as I am still 1.5 stone heavier than I want to be (the "baby" is nearly two, ooooops!) so I am loathe to buy a new dress, and this one really hides a multitude of sins.
