Do any of you lot dye your eyebrows?

I have quite pale coloured eyebrows and lashes, so I always wear dark mascara as I look washed out and ill without it. I've had my eyelashes dyed a few times over the past few years but I've never tried dyeing my eyebrows and I'm wondering if it would make my face look better? Do any of you lot (particularly natural blondes and redheads) dye your brows, and if so, what colour do you use, how often do you need to have it done, does it ever look silly as the 'roots' grow out, and do you do it yourself or go to the salon? Smile

For the last ten years have been going every 4 weeks for eyebrow tint and shape- usually waxing then some tweezer activity. Have recently decided to abandon this and do it myself and spend the £15 each month on something else. I bought eyelash dye from boots, about £8 and followed the very easy instructions. I have found that very regular use of tweezers (daily, every other day) has so far avoided need for waxing. The dye is called eyelure and can be used on eyelashes (no thanks you I'll stick to mascara) as well. I have very fair eyebrows and after reading some reviews left the dye on much longer than recommended, think it said 2-3 mins, mine was on 10 mins and not extremely dark.

I too use Eyelure dye in black, I am naturally a dark blonde (Mousey) with blonde highlights but have quite fair eyebrows and look better with darker ones especially when they are nicely plucked and shaped.
I leave on for about 3 minutes and wipe off. Ther in no regrowth it simply fades over a few weeks. I do mine about every 3 weeks.

I would start off with a brow pencil or some shadow applied to the brow to get used to it, then go for a tint. Maybe get it done at a salon first, then when you get used to it have a go at home.

I've had mine dyed before (when I did a course that covered doing lash & brow tinting) and I am very blonde - it does give your face a bit more definition. I am too lazy to keep it up but I always use brow pencil - the colour of the dye was brown, whereas the colour of the pencil is a bit more natural IMO. The dye looked fine though, just different from the colour of the pencil.

DD (auburn/chestnut hair, fair straggly eyebrows) has them shaped and tinted at the Benefit counter in Debenhams. I am staggered at the difference it makes to her face. She has it done when home from Uni so every 6-8 weeks but could probably do with having it done more often.

Mine are really pale. I get my lashes done (black) at a salon. I only get my eyebrows waxed there though to get a good shape; I dye them myself.

I use dark brown tint. If you keep putting it on and wiping it off every minute or so you can control how dark they go. It does give much more definition to your face, but careful not to go too dark or it will look a bit startling and unnatural if you are very fair. It can take some getting used to darker eyebrows at first if you've gone most of your life with them very pale.

The roots don't really grow out as such. What happens is that the colour fades off, quite quickly I find. So tinting a little and often yourself quickly at home will keep the colour consistent. I used to have my eyebrows done in the salon but found that during 3/4 weeks they'd fade out quite noticably. I like them to look the same colour all the time. It's really easy to doSmile.

My dd attacks mine from time to time and it makes such a difference. So, no I don't do my eyebrows she does them for me :)

smearedinfood · 17/03/2012 13:20

I am very fair with reddish hair. Eye brows are done in dark brown and I get them threaded. Lashes blue black. I look a LOT better when they get done. I Always go a professional. Don't bother with waxing the brow. I've had to many occasions when the wax has been a bit hot and you end up with a scab on brow. Threading is loads better.

CuppaTeaJanice · 17/03/2012 15:30

Thanks everybody! I have booked a professional brow tint (light/medium brown) and shape, so I can see how it 'should' be done, and if it looks ok I'll get some of that eyelure stuff and have a go myself! Grin

It's funny, they've never really bothered me that much before, but I keep looking in the mirror and thinking I have no eyebrows.

I use eyelure too, in dark brown (am brown haired). It's fine, like somone said above you can take it off and put it on again to ensure you don't go too dark.

It's a bit of a faff with the eyelashes, I don't bother anymore as I use mascara anyway. Good luck

cybbo · 17/03/2012 19:47

Yes Eyelure brown. NEVER use black unless you want to look like Groucho Marx

ditavonteesed · 17/03/2012 19:50

am a red head and I dye them myself, I look awful without it, likem i have no lashes or brows.

chipstick10 · 17/03/2012 21:59

I tint mine dark brown. I buy mine in the beauty wholesalers. I do them every three week or so. When applying tint i just keep wiping it off until i get desired colour. That said it only needs to be left on for 30 seconds or so.

sincitylover · 17/03/2012 22:35

Yes I get mine done once per month and It makes a big difference - I also use an eyebrow pencil.

peasandlove · 18/03/2012 07:09

I use eyelure too

CuppaTeaJanice · 18/03/2012 07:57

Do you need a new pack of eyelure every time you do a tint, or is it in some kind of bottle so you can use a bit when needed so it lasts a few months?

OP posts:
taffila · 18/03/2012 08:04

No One pack last for about 8 applications. I am mousey brown it use the brown one once a week. It has saved me a fortune-wish I had discovered sooner....

peasandlove · 21/03/2012 06:34

one pack lasts me about a year :)

MsNorbury · 21/03/2012 07:23

i have a lady who does. is brilliant

MsNorbury · 21/03/2012 07:24

am interested in eyelure hto
am v dark brown - what shade? brown? will black be witchy?

peasandlove · 22/03/2012 09:54

I have used both, now use the black one as my brows are very fair and I like them to get a bit of colour. Try the brown first I guess, I leave it on for much longer too, probably closer to 10mins, but it does dye my skin a little under the hair, but that wears off by the next day. Make sure you use a cotton bud to remove it off anywhere you dont want colour to show and shape your brows nicely

SigmundVoid · 22/03/2012 10:00

I can't as I'm allergic to dye. Shame asy eyebrows are very fair and I'd love to sue them.

So my advice would be -whether you do it at home or at a
salon-please always make sure you do a patch test. Behind the ear is a good place to test

SigmundVoid · 22/03/2012 10:01

Argh dye would love to dye them nOt sue my eyebrows obv
