Bare Minerals...am I missing something?

Okaaaaaay. Following the advice of approximately four and a half million MNers, I took the plunge and bought some BM and am seriously underwhelmed...am I doing it wrong????

I just feel like I'm missing the foundation stage out and just wearing loose powder....the colour is spot on, and my face feels nice and smooth, but only like it would if I had my normal face powder on,but minus foundation.

Thanks Valiumredhead. I find the mineral veil a bit powdery looking but I'll give it another go.

valiumredhead · 19/03/2012 13:06

Yeah I do too - I just dab my nose with the foundation brush and there is just enough on there to take the shine away.

MissFoodie · 19/03/2012 13:47

or use the BM matte foundation on your nose?
I dont like the original mineral veil, looks chalky, I now have the tinted MV and it's fab!

wools · 19/03/2012 14:01

Yes I have the original Mineral Veil and it is chalky - I will try the tinted Mineral Veil. Thank you.

MissFoodie · 19/03/2012 14:05

don't be swayed into getting either of the other 2 MVs (hydrating and something else) as they are both shimmery so leave a shiny nose!
i'm v pale and loving the tinted MV, it warms up your foundation, but not like a bronzer or warmth (which I don't like, is too orange for me)

wools · 19/03/2012 14:08

Thank goodness you told me - I didn't realise there were so many different types.

MissFoodie · 19/03/2012 14:15

yes, 4, I went in to try them all on!
ps ended up getting my tinted mv from ebay though, v good seller, all sealed and in new click and go pot

Well, t'is a week on and it's OK, but it does depend in which light I'm looking at myself...in a soft light it looks lovely, perfect skin, all smooth and luminescent (does that word exist?) then I went into the bathroom and Barbara Cartland was looking at me. So I scrubbed half of it off. I think my skin is just possibly too dry for BM, but thanks for the putting-on tips, I definitely wasn't using enough.

I then spent the entire afternoon on makeupalley and have now ordered some Dior future something or other. I used to use Dior way back in the 90s so I thought I'd have a bash at that again.

I have tried and tried with Bare Minerals ...did the whole Youube tutorial thing. Never got a good result. No idea what I've done wrong, but it seems to leave me looking powdery and sinks in to every crease and line. I also have dry sin, so maybe its that.

Back to Estee Lauder Doublewear...ah, much better

MissFoodie · 23/03/2012 10:32

I've switched to BM Matte and love it, much better than BM original, avoid eye area, and apply in downward strokes with large powder (non bm) brush, never looks cakey or powdery either - but its a v personal thing

ggirl · 23/03/2012 19:34

arf @ bucharest spending an afternoon on makeupalley...so easy to do it' scary!

I find if I rub it into my pores with my finger it works better. Put some on today after a run - bloody hell, it showed up wrinkles I didn't know existed that was horrible. Think I'm going to finish the pot but I doubt I will make a repeat purchase the highlighted pores issue is just not going away.
