Something to hide my head after my recent surgery

BackPackBackPack · 15/03/2012 23:39

Hi

I had brain surgery last week and the surgeon has ended shaving all of my hair off as it was easier apparently.

I was fine with going out with no hair. But after today and a man If I can even call him that- basically said to my DP he wouldn't let his Girlfriend out if she looked like me :(

So now I am looking for something to cover my head, I have staples in my head at the moment.

I have tried my hats but they just look ridiculous and make me look more like an Idiot then before I put it on, I have tried the Bandana and that also look horrible.

So I need something to cover my head. Has anyone got any ideas? DP, MIL and In laws are all going to chip in and we have roughly £600 to buy something.

Well, that man is a twat AngryAngryAngry, whereas you are amazing!

Sorry not to have any useful ideas tho. I'm sure a S&B guru will be around for stylish suggestions by breakfast. Smile

Maghribia · 16/03/2012 02:36

Sent you a pm, darling.

OllieinOrange · 16/03/2012 08:00

Sorry, no sugestions either but just wanted to second exactly what MotherMucca said. What an idiot of a man.

Oh, just thought of something. I know that India Knight in her book How to Shops really rated the wig shop (not sure that's the correct term) at the top of Kensington Church Street in London saying how lovely the sales assistants were. Maybe they have a website with some suggestions for head covering ideas on?

Good luck with your recovery and hope you don't have to deal with any pointless and hurtful comments. You have my permission to punch them if so Smile

Glad you are back on your feet and so sorry that someone thoughtless arse has upset you.

I don't have any suggestions but if you are covering up your head for other people I would say stuff them. I can't imagine many people will be so heartless. Staples in your head might make someone look twice at you but surely they will only be looking with sympathy at the ordeal you have been through not with any other idiotic thoughts.

Recommend that wig shop it's called Tendco. I went there last Saturday to buy a wig prior to starting chemo. They were so helpful and it was only £135. I thought it was going to be a lot more. You can order online if you can't get there. Hope you are doing ok post surgery x

echt · 16/03/2012 08:16

So sorry you've encountered such an outstanding arse.

Googling "cancer head scarves" throws up adequate but a bit meh patterns, and modelled on plastic heads makes them look worse.

Try googling "head wraps" or "African headscarves", and you'll see designs and materials which look rather splendid.

Good luck with it all.

AbsofCroissant · 16/03/2012 08:20

Whereabouts are you based?

You could get a wig made, or find a wig shop.

Otherwise, to keep you head covered in the meantime (maybe also while the head heels), you could order scarves etc. from somewhere like here. Also, what colour was your hair before? If it was dark, and you're wearing light scarves it can make you look drained, so basically try and find something that suits your skin tone.

oohermrs · 16/03/2012 08:24

Also someone has recommended this website to me www.randrconfidence.co.uk/Home.html. Hope that link works never posted one before!

Bonsoir · 16/03/2012 08:27

Wigs are really uncomfortable, as well as expensive, and only really work when you are bald. If your hair has been shaved off, it is going to grow back really fast (I presume you are not about to have chemotherapy). I would buy a stretchy turban type scarf to see you through the next three weeks; you will be able to have your hair cut and styled thereafter.

BackPackBackPack · 17/03/2012 23:38

Thanks for all of your replies.

I have decided to just be me and not hide my head. DD told me I am beautifull even though I have funny things in my head :o .

If anyone else mentions it in a bad way they will get a bad word from me. I have DD's words in my mind at all times. No-one told DD to say it she just came out with it when I was cuddling her (I wanted some comfort after the man said that) and she just said it :)

Your DD is right.

Ignore that terrible man's comment. He's an arse.

startail · 18/03/2012 00:01

Hi glad to hear your out of hospital and veryAngry to hear you have had twats to put up with.

There are some brilliant videos of the headscarfs orthodox Jewish ladies wear and ways of tying them. I can't remember what they were called, but they were really pretty and practical.

TattyDevine · 18/03/2012 08:05

I think that bloke may have had some brain surgery of his own, of the removal kind.

I'd go the wig personally, I've always wanted to have an excuse to wear a wig, and whilst one should be careful what they wish for, if a situation ever arises where my hair has to dissapear suddenly it would certainly be a positive to focus on, and with £600 to spend you can have some fun I reckon.

Good luck

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 18/03/2012 08:09

While your surgery scars will heal that man will remain a twat for the rest of his life and your DD is a very wise child.

Good luck OP.

topsyturner · 18/03/2012 08:27

I was recently bald due to chemo , and when I wanted to cover my head (I mainly went bald and proud !) I used Buffs . They are tubes of stretchy material .
You can buy them online or in most outdoor pursuits shops .
They come in loads of different colours .

I hated wigs , found them too hot and itchy . And hats make me look like Paddington Grin

And to finish , tell that knob to take a hike !
You are bald and beautiful !!!

ifeelloved · 18/03/2012 08:32

Second hellhas. In fact if anyone ever says that to you again I would suggest telling them that your hair will grow back and your scars will heal, they will always be a twat/cunt/fuckwit *

  • or insert your own choice Grin

Glad all went well and your dd is helping you to feel stronger

My sister, when she lost her hair through chemo, painted wonderful designs on her head with henna.
