Redheads- is Aveda madder root shampoo any good?

My natural red hair has become much darker with age & now a few greys are appearing.

I occasionally use a semi permanent but it really ruins the condition of my hair & it's really hard to get a good (non fake) colour!

Just seen good reviews of Aveda Madder Root shampoo & conditioner & it seems good. It's much more than I would ever spend but could push the boat out if it really works.

Anybody tried it?

I'm a brunette but I use the madder root shampoo and condition sometimes to give my hair a bit of a red/auburn zing. I'm not sure if the shampoo does anything but the conditioner - it stains your hands if you don't rub off almost immediately and try not to get it on the grout between the files in your bathroom. It works on my hair (which is poreous but I don't have any great yet so I can't comment on how it would cover). The conditioner doesn't seem overly conditioning so I often mix half and half with a bog standard conditioner. I don't use it every time otherwise I'd end up with very red hair !
The 1 litre shampoo has lasted me over a year, the conditioner comes in 250ml tubes and I get through two a year, but I don't use the shampoo and conditioner exclusively. Hope that helps...

My redhead SIl uses it for the same reason as you describe OP and she has fab hair.. so yes it works

to be honest, I used the Madder Root shampoo/conditioner for ages and never noticed much of a difference, even though the conditioner was quite fierce - I don't think it's strong enough to cover greys. But then I suppose it depends what sort of red your hair is?

I get my ever-darkening coppery hair refreshed with a salon semi permanent every 8 weeks, and slap an Elasticizer/Kerastase treatment on once a week to counteract any damage. Ironically, some of the worst dyejobs I've had were in an Aveda salon; I don't think they're brilliant with reds (although it might just have been my colourist!)

Thanks, is very expensive for products- think I just want a wonder product. When I use a semi perm it's always too dark for the 1st wk or so & I hate that dyed dull red look. I am now dark red but want 'Bree' look
