What do we think of brown tights?

I have a navy print dress and am wondering about tights colours (I've been haunting S&B on related topics recently!)

I want to wear it with my new grey shoes and am trying to think of good colours. Purple (grapey not winey) and dark teal would both look good, I think, and lime green or hot pink, but I haven't worn brown tights before and was wondering about them.

Please advise, S&B panel!

TIA

I thought brown and navy was strictly forbidden? And not with grey shoes. A dark red would work or would that be too nautical?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 07/03/2012 14:55

Is it?? Fuck. I had no idea. I was thinking a soft minky brown, quite pale, rather than dark old-schoolmistress brown, if that makes a difference? Also my dress is navy with a light-coloured print.

I think red's fine if it's dark, not bright red. But I want footless or stirrup tights and you would not believe how hard it is to find them ...

I get the idea of soft minky brown but fear that to the uninformed it might be easily confused with particularly thick tan granny hose.

Yes, you're not wrong. What to do then?

Oh, minky brown is completely different. They would work . I was thinking chocolate brown which wouldn't provide enough contrast of tone and would be in entirely the wrong spectrum.

Still not sure about the grey shoes with it all though Confused

nickelhasababy · 07/03/2012 15:15

brown is good with paler blues, but not navy. pale brown would be fine

all the other colours sound good - esp teal or purple.

nickelhasababy · 07/03/2012 15:15

what colour is your pattern? can you pick one out?

nickelhasababy · 07/03/2012 15:16

you'd need brown knee-high boots if you go with the minky.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 07/03/2012 15:26

The thing is I really REALLY want to wear my new grey shoes and my new frock together!

nickel, hard to pick out one colour and match it absolutely correctly, but here's the dress

I've just ordered tights in purple, lime green and mustard so will see how I get on. Thanks all!

i see.
that's why the minky would work.
i say if you're going with tights that are different, make them really different, so it doesn't look like you dressed in the dark.
so, yes, lime green and mustard would also be good.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 07/03/2012 15:52

'make them really different'. My thoughts exactly!

Perhaps mink tights with the navy frock and some bright-coloured shoes would work ...

But I only have red shoes, if we're talking bright colours, and I suspect navy frock/red shoes would look too trolley-dolly? ...

Yes, clashy would look good. With it being dark, there could be a danger of veering into frumpy if choose sensible tights with it. I vote mustard or cerise

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 07/03/2012 16:47

I think you're all very wise.
