Lands End Stretch Jersey Trousers - cheaper alternative or...

are they worth it? £40 is quite steep for me but I've been looking for a nice pair of casual trousers ever since losing some weight last year (hooray!) and deciding, like a lot of people her recently, that jeans are just not comfy or flattering.

Is Lands End usually good quality and worth the money, or does anyone know of another place where I can get bargainous and flattering trousers?

Do you mean these? My mum has a couple of pairs of them and has found them to be very comfortable and they last forever.

mateysmum · 07/03/2012 09:06

Although not high fashion, everything from Lands End is really good quality. Their stuff washes and washes and keeps its shape. Their customer service is excellent.
The only downside is you do have to pay for returns, but you can return anytime for any reason and they will refund.
I like their linen trousers - am wearing a pair now. They are a linen mix and don't crease or fade like most linen trousers.

CuttedUpPear · 07/03/2012 09:15

Hi Dexter73, yes those are the ones. I'm a bit Hmm about your mum having them though...unless of your she is a toned and trim lovely yummy mummy, which of course she may well be Grin!
I was hoping for a funky modern slim me look Blush
Are they quite loose on the thighs do you think?

OP posts:
CuttedUpPear · 07/03/2012 09:16

...cos I do not have big thighs and I should make the most of that!

cocolepew · 07/03/2012 09:20

Next have similar at the moment, though they might be a be narrower at the bottom.

cocolepew · 07/03/2012 09:20

Bottom of the leg, not the bum area Confused

SixtyFootDoll · 07/03/2012 09:22

Crikey, how old are you?

dexter73 · 07/03/2012 10:49

Lol at my mum being a yummy mummy! She is 74 and quite round!

dexter73 · 07/03/2012 11:00

How about these instead?

ifancyashandy · 07/03/2012 11:08

How old are you? For the love of all that is holy, do not buy those trousers if you are under 70 years of age!

Get to Zara - they have tons of trousers that aren't jeans.

CuttedUpPear · 07/03/2012 12:05

I'm 46 (but at the moment pass for younger, hooray! it won't last) and size 8-10. Jeans are horrid, I'd be happy to never spend another having seams imprinted onto my legs. I want to be secretly comfy.

Not sure about the Uniqlo skinny trews, my bum isn't good enough to be the top half of a carrot these days.

Good thinking about Zara!

CuttedUpPear · 07/03/2012 12:07

Oh and thank you Shandy for the very well placed tip about not buying from Lands End if I'm under 70.

Closing that Land End tab NOW Smile

CuttedUpPear · 07/03/2012 12:15

Ok
Just looked at Zara site and am not impressed. I don't want tapered/skinny/on the hips, I want soft and tight on the bum, loose ankle and a waistband that comes up nearly to my belly button!

And can anyone tell WTF is going on in this close up photo in this page??

have you had a look at Gap? or Banana Republic?

CuttedUpPear · 07/03/2012 12:42

And what makes the Zara ones 'Mum' trousers I wonder?

OP posts:
BeriBlue · 07/03/2012 12:49

Why not buy things from Land's End? If you like it, buy it. It's good quality.

CuttedUpPear · 07/03/2012 12:51

Because ifancyashandy said I shouldn't unless I was over 70....?

Those LE ones are hideous

BeriBlue · 07/03/2012 12:56

Only those pair of pants. You don't have the stay away from the entire shop.

noddyholder · 07/03/2012 12:57

Have had a glance and hate it all It makes boden look cool

CuttedUpPear · 07/03/2012 13:18

Haha yes maybe I should go back to Boden

OP posts:
ifancyashandy · 07/03/2012 13:24

I like those Zara ones!

CuttedUpPear · 07/03/2012 13:38

Fancy do you mean the 'mum' ones? Ok fair enough but...

  1. Why are they called 'mum' trousers?
  2. What is happening in the close up picture - looks like she's got her knickers pulled up to her armpits!
OP posts:
polyhymnia · 07/03/2012 13:53

I'm not yet 70 but am probably well in the LE target age group and I personally wouldn't dream of getting jersey trousers with a stretch waistband from them.Would really feel I'd given up and settled for comfy 'old ladies' 'wear. Classic Collection stuff. I doubt they'd look funky even on someone much younger and slimmer either.
Iseer L E as a style- free zone but have nevertheless had a couple of down coats from them for really cold weather that I've been pleased with.
