to go bare-legged in the summer....or not

I'm looking forward to the summer and being able to wear dresses (I love them) but have come to the conclusion that I'm just too long in the tooth (54) to go bare-legged. I have good legs and in the winter I wear shortish things with tights/hold-ups but I have thread veins, blemishes and skin that looks like a plucked chicken so there's no way I can wear anything above mid-calf without some sort of cover!

Is there anyone in the same predicament? Is it daft to wear hosiery in the summer and should I just stick to long dresses/trousers? I would love to wear fitted dresses just on the knee or slightly above if I can find something to wear on my legs that won't feel too uncomfortable in the heat.

You could try the Sally Hansen Airbrush stuff someone was talking about the other day or the, frankly ridiculously self indulgent but very lovely product that I've got ( shite name though ) prttypeaushun.blogspot.com/2011/11/in-press-instyle-magazine-uk-december.html

I wear toeless tights - they are very thin (7 denier) but give a good coverage and are great with peeptoes.

I get mine from asda, of all places, but they also sell them in M&S etc.

So long as you don't go very short I'd suggest you work on those legs to get them as moisturised and suitably (fake) tanned as you can and then just go bare legged - sometimes being comfortable is more important than looking perfect. I'm sure if the rest of you looks lovely no one will be peering intently at your legs

Thanks for the tips - all different! :) I suppose you're right higgle - unless someone's crawling around on the floor they won't be at leg level! I do have a couple of horrible thread veins though, that I just can't disguise with anything.

I go bare legged in the summer and I have huge scars all over one leg Smile

MrsMiniver · 06/03/2012 10:50

Oh yes, forgot to mention the scar - got it when I fell backwards down the garden steps after too much wine! :)

I always have bruises on my leg - I keep walking into the oven door handle and have a perma-bruise on my lower thigh.

I have also got a huge one at the moment on my calf - I have no idea what I do to myself.

MrsMiniver · 06/03/2012 11:49

Bruising easily is a sign of being peachy :)
