well mine grows reasonably quickly, but my well-above-shoulder length bob was back down to my collarbone within 8 weeks last time i got a cut, so with a bit of luck you won't have long to wait! did you tell the hairdresser you didn't like it? maybe the style rather than the length?

SherlockKnomes · 03/03/2012 20:12

pictures? I'm sure its not so bad!

mrsmartin · 03/03/2012 20:13

The first time I had a bob cut I hated it. Then everyone started telling me how great it looked and I realised how it always looked perfect - no brushing needed - I just rolled out of bed looking fabulous!

Took me about a week to get used to it. I have really long hair now but would go for a bob again quite happily. Just give it time.Grin

NeshBugger · 03/03/2012 20:17

all one length?

RunnyBum · 03/03/2012 20:32

Hairdresser is a friend who is having a v hard time at the minute so I didn't tell her. She is excellent, and i did ask for this!

No pics as I have a big red face from crying like a loser, sorry I know this is a stupid thing to cry about as no one is ill!

Yes all one length.

Thanks for your replies x

Why don't you like it? Have you had any opinions from others?

When younger I could carry off a blunt bob, not now! Sometimes layers are more forgiving.

VeryStressedMum · 03/03/2012 20:42

It's just the shock of going from long to short. You'll get used to it.

QuietOhSoQuiet · 03/03/2012 20:43

I did this and hated it at first then after about a week, having lots of compliments I started to like it,then a week later when I got used to it I loved it.

There is hope, show us a pic and you may be surprised as we wil give you an honest unbiased opinion.

RunnyBum · 03/03/2012 20:48

My 5yr old hates it, DH loves it but from a style point of view that doesn't mean much bless him ;) Your right I haven't had this hairstyle since much younger (36 at the end of the month) its not right now. I don't feel great about myself anyway at the minute so this hasn't helped, silly time to change! Even another inch and it will look a bit better so hopefully a few months, til then a micro ponytail with tonnes of clips is called for. I also have quite heavy glasses that look awful with this hairdo... sigh

Honestly can't do pic, big ugly red face is not a good look ;)

QuietOhSoQuiet · 03/03/2012 20:52

oh Runny don'tput yourself down,it sounds more like a problem with how you feel about yourself in general than you hate the haircut and of course your 5 yr old hates it,their mummy they have known for 5 years has changed something, this is normal.

Go and experiment with it and then come back in a week and tell us you still hate it Wink

mrsmartin · 03/03/2012 20:56

If you really really hate it and can pull it back in a ponytail then perhaps try a style maker - I use the Ken paves hair do ones when my hair is greasy I can't be bothered to do my hair and need to go out.

I still think you will come round to it though...

In the meantime - get dh to run you a bath and warm up your robe for when you get out. Then have something nice to eat and a cuddle Wink

RunnyBum · 03/03/2012 21:13

Thanks for being so lovely everyone x

you will get used to it and will probably like it!

i read that if you have a bad haircut it takes six weeks until you can learn to love it again Grin

AwkwardMary · 03/03/2012 21:23

I had mine cut short once and thught I looked terrible...I recently saw a video of me at that time and I looked bloody great! Calm your face down, get a load of slap on and smile...i bet it's jut the shock.

bonzo77 · 03/03/2012 22:14

I did the exact same thing on NYE. Also felt a bit Shock at the time, but have never had so many compliments! And so easy to "do" compared to when it was long. Honestly, you'll feel loads better about it in a day or two.

Beamur · 03/03/2012 22:17

I've cried in the hairdressers before...my 'feathered' bob made me look like a rough Suzy Quattro.
It will grow, but you have my sympathy.

ENormaSnob · 03/03/2012 23:01

My midi bob last august left me looking like Russell brand Sad

Give it a few weeks and you will feel better.

cocolepew · 03/03/2012 23:09

You'll be amazed at how quick it will grow.

I'm sure it's lovely Smile

fluffylegs · 03/03/2012 23:15

Without wanting to sound like I'm
missing the point or being insensitive -What about getting a new lippie and / or styling it differently. With a babyliss big hair or babyliss heated rollers ( for a marilyn Monroe look). They're not mega expensive the things I've suggested. But it's worth having a play.
I think there is too much disparity between what hairdressers do and what we can do ourselves so it inevitably leads to disappointment. ( but a bit of practice should sort that)
It's good to change once in a while.

Do you ever wear contacts?

FilterCoffee · 03/03/2012 23:29

Hair grows about half an inch a month. So by the summer hopefully you'll be happier with it again :)

pluckingupcourage · 04/03/2012 00:04

this happened to me just before Christmas - I had asked to have a couple of inches off my very long hair but I had the feeling something was wrong when my stylist was cutting hair near the front. In the end it was a long bob, just above shoulders and my hair has a wave, so it was even shorter when left to dry naturally. I am pleased to say that now in March, it is a good length and super healthy after having so much lopped off.
I have to say that I went bonkers at Christmas and had a very good cry (for many days) about hair. Even looked into ordering a hair bun hair piece (because I'd planned to wear hair up for NYE). I might still do that actually as my DSIL has one which makes her look amazing.

It does get better! It will grow!

starfishmummy · 04/03/2012 00:23

I can understand how you feel, my regular hairdresser cut my hair wonky last year; I only realised when I washed it myself the next day. I did mention it the next time I saw her but she said it wasn't wonky and as she had done it with the parting slightly to the side and not in the centre. She has been cutting my hair for years and I have always had a centre parting!!

Anyway until it was sorted I had an excuse to buy myself some nice accessories and a hat; I either wore it tied back or shoved inside the hat (which was great id I didn't feel like trying to style it!)

chipstick10 · 04/03/2012 12:33

My hair is thinning alarmingly, so personally i would be quite happy with a chin legnth bob that i didnt have to keep patching up to hide the thinning.

MaidenDevon · 04/03/2012 13:59

Oh I know how you feel Thanks. I had my fairly long one length hair cut to just above shoulders and had a heavy blunt fringe cut. I was hoping to look like Claudia Winkleman, I ended up resembling Noel Fielding from The Mighty Boosh Blush

Am still growing it out 6 months later Sad
