New pixie cropped hairdo... but what to wear with it? (Clueless)

I have a new cropped 'do which I love - it's quite..er.. assertive (unlike me).

But now I'm thinking my usual clothes (White Stuff-esque - tunics/leggings etc) don't really go with it......I'd love to be a bit more ..Edgy? Sharp? Interesting?

I've no idea where to start though - could anyone help by pointing me to some styles/shops/looks to try?

I'm 42, 5'8 size 10/12 and have a high street budget.

Thank you clever stylish people :-)

I'm not super stylish myself or anything but I do have the same hair cut as you and have noticed I have to steer clear of anything too flouncy or feminine or it looks wrong ( long or full skirts are out. Since your'e so lovely and slim i'd go for the Audrey look: cigarette pants or cropped trousers with a polo or boat necked top and ballet flats. Timeless, elegant and neat. Boden will see you right for any of these.Smile

Thanks Whirliwig, that's a fab start and something I'd not thought of - would certainly be a new look for me... Is that the kind of thing you like to wear?

Yep agree with PP, you need to keep it gamine. Close fitting and tailored is your friend. A mac could work well too. Try Zara. Am very Envy at your ability to pull off a pixie crop!

Thanks AmberNectarine - I have a nice mac - hooray, that's one piece! I haven't shopped at Zara for yonks but just had a look and saw some really nice things - again clothes I'd never normally look at - so will just need to get myself along there and try a bunch of new styles out.

Thanks!

I'm also growing out a little flash of hair at the front in my true hair colour - pure white - so I'm hoping that will add some interest...although my husband's reaction to the idea was "What, like Dickie Davies?"

:-)

Back again - I grabbed a few things in H&M while passing earlier with DD - took them home and none are any good unfortunately but I'll try again when I have a little more time, esp at Zara.

..but I was thinking maybe the neat and tailored thing has never been easy for me.. (I have quite big boobs and a bit of tummy tyre although slimish everywhere else - it means I always struggle with fitted tops etc).

Was wondering if more of a slight rock chick type feel may work better? (I do actually sing in a band) - although obviously at 42 I don't want to suddenly look completely ridiculous... oh I'm so rubbish at this!

Any more pointers before I hit to the shops?

Thanks again!
