Does washing your hair less often make it less greasy?

I used to wash and style my hair every day when it was above shoulder length. Since it's been long I've only needed to do it every two days, and now I seem to be able to go three days before it looks dirty. Just wondering if anyone knows if it's the lack of washing that makes it less greasy or something else? Maybe my standards have just dropped and I think it looks ok on the 3rd day when previously I'd have thought it needed washing!

Yes, the more you wash it the more oil your scalp produces x

Oh thanks! I think I'd heard that before but never quite believed it - I do now!

It's also much better for you hair as its not been dried and styled everyday x

I wash my hair every other day. It looks greasy on the second day but I get a itchy scalp if I wash it too much (I batiste on the second day). I think when you're hair is longer it doesn't look as bad as the percentage of your hair that's greasy if less. For example if your hair is 10 ins long and you have 2ins of greasy roots then 20% of your hair is greasy but if your hair is 20 ins long and you have 2ins of grease then only 10% of your hair looks greasy.

A mathematical answer to a hair question - I like it whiter!
