Is it possible to be a natural blonde and go brunette?

I think I'm having a slight identity crisis Confused , I get restless sometimes and want to change my look. Have no idea why.

So far tonight I have lobbed off 4 inches off my hair and am now sporting a nice layered collar bone length do.

I was thinking about going brunette. I am naturally blonde and pale. Will it make me look ill? I have tried going a bit darker before ( think dark blonde ) and I thought it looked quite nice, bought a bit of colour to me iykwim.

So has anyone done this and it been ok? Is it too much? I was thinking a sort of medium brown, or possibly a reddy brown.

What shade is best for my colouring? I have quite cool tones. Do I go for ash shades, cool shades etc

Someone give me some advice please!

I went chestnut brown once (naturally pale ashy blonde/grey). It looked good with my eyes (made the blue stand out more) but made my skin look very washed out.

I decided however that it was too much of a dramatic change for me, and I ended up with a long painful re-blonding process which didn't do the condition of my hair any favours.

It may be that I needed (and failed) to reassess my makeup. If your skin tone is cool I would guess that a cool brown might be better - but I think with a more drastic change it would be best to get it done professionally. Good luck!

Maybe try a caramel type colour first? My friend went from natural blonde to brunette but she wasn't a white blonde so not too pale. Her roots did look grey though!

I'm a natural brunette but am quite pale so too dark makes even me look washed out despite very dark brown being my natural colour. What I tend to do now is have dark hair, but with lots of highlights underneath which add texture and another layer of colour that compliments my skin tone rather than working against it. Could you try that sparky perhaps with a not-too dark brown. Beware putting red on blonde though as it could go pink. I would get this done professionally to start with as it's such a drastic change, then you can top up at home.

It can look stunning (think of the beautiful celtic colouring dark hair, pale skin, blue eyes) but it can wash you out too. I went from pale blonde to dark brown (it took four hours at the hairdressers) but after 4 years I'm going blonde again, I just felt it was a tad draining.
