why is my hair sticky

for the last month my hair has been really heavy and sticky at the roots after washing and feels like there is build up on my scalp. i was using elvive which I don't normally but had sent OH to buy shampoo, stopped and switched to Aussie products, no better. Bought a Tresemme clarifying shampoo, still the same. So when I was in hairdresser the other day getting DD's hair cut asked and she recommended a Kerastase shampoo (bain something or other) which would treat my scalp. my hair is a bit better but still does feel sticky, like after drying it today my hands felt sticky....

not sure what to try next and this is costing me a fortune....

Try baby shampoo ..it strips colour out , so assume it would strip any build up off ?

Do you dye or lighten your hair ?

yes have it highlighted, but have never had this before?

maybe i will give baby shampoo a go for a couple of washes. thanks

I have had this lately - weird! I thought it might be my styling wax as I haven't changed shampoo. Although I don't rub it into the roots Confused

i think if you over bleach hair it can go sticky , but if you get highlights it wouldnt be that ...

Hmm Mabey the shampoo makers are putting too much silicone or something in the stuff to get us to buy more thinking it will wash out ???

I had this when I was pregnant with DD - it also felt hard at the roots if that makes sense.

Now I used ahem fairy liquid once to get rid of the horrid stickiness and then switched to Kerastase Bain Miroir 1. Am scrupulous about never getting dirty bath water on my hair, wash and rinse twice and no conditioner.

Mine was definitely exacerbated by pregnancy and very soft water.

get some hairfix - takes away all the build up - you can get a trial kit here for £12.50. I use it once a week and it takes off all of the product etc and I feel I get more out of my normal shampoo and conditioner.

Step 1 feels pointless - it doesn't foam and its just like massaging oil into your hair - just go with it.
Step 2 is a really weird 'spongy' shampoo - strips all the crap off your hair and scalp and kind of makes your hair feel like straw. Keep going with it.
Step 3 is the conditioner and it feels like it isn't going to fix your hair. However, when it you rinse your hair feels AMAZING.

I love it and it isn't very expensive (I think the size I've linked to would last at least 2 months done once a week).
