I went today, all excited, to buy sone bare minerals face stuff having heard it's fab, will revolutionise my life etc

It wasn't a counter with a salesperson, just a shelf. And the girl I collared didn't have the faintest clue aboout it

There was a starter kit, 9 items for £49. They also gad an almost identical kit, but only 8 pieces reduced to £32. I think the only difference was the more expensive one had primer. And the pots were called 'bare mineLs ID'

I became so flustered and confused I left empty handed

Is the starter kit what I need?
Do I need primer?
And if I'm fair haired and skinned do I go for the light one? Is there no chance I'd need medium

Confused

right - I can help you out here Smile

First of all, go for the cheaper kit - you can buy a seperate primer (I LOVE BM but don't really rate their primer) - the barbera daly one for tesco is less than a tenner and comes highly recommended on MN.

Second - you get two shades of foundation in each kit so there is abit of leway with matching the right shade. If you have fair skin (Nicole kidman to holly willoughby) then go for the fair/light option. If your skin has more of a natural tan to it then go for the medium kit but from what you have said I expect you will need the light one.

Make sure you watch the dvd for how to apply it. If you are still unsure then tune into the qvc beauty channel when the have a bare escentuals hour - there is at least one a day and you can watch it via the link on their website too - as they have their head make up artist showing all of the tips and tricks.

And finally, any other questions there are all of us MNetters who love the minerals!!!

Get yourself to Debenhams. In this weeks Grazia there is an advert saying that if you go and get your shade matched they will give you a delux sample. Try that before shelling out money. I don't use a primer when I wear mine.

In my local Debenhams it's just up on a shelf not even at a counter.

I have used Lily Lolo mineral make-up for the last 5 years and love it. As far as I know you can only buy it online but it is really reasonably priced, lasts for ages both in the pot as well as on your face. I'm 51 and was told by a 25 year old that I was 'glowing'! Which is amazing because without make-up I always look like I'm going down with flu. My 26 year old daughter also uses it now and really likes it and she still has quite spotty, bumpy skin. So if you aren't happy with the Bare Minerals I'd certainly give this a shot. You can also order samples for just over a £1 a shot which is really helpful re getting colour right and just seeing if you like it. I use their foundation, flawless silk powder on top and their blusher. Not too crazy about the eye shadow but love everything else.
