but isn't that the point of super tight panties, to remove the wobble and smooth out the bumps.

mrsmartin · 16/02/2012 22:42

Completely - I just think you need to be wash-board flat in the tummy area to wear skin-tight and spanx and co don't do that past a size 10 imho. Simply smoothing the bump just isn't good enough - it needs to be bon existant. Bigger thighs and arms (so long as covered) are fine but flabby tum in a herve leger style dress just looks tragic.

ilovebabytv · 16/02/2012 22:54

don't burst my bubble, i do look thin in the dress, i do look thin in the dress Grin oh god, do i have some sort of shallow hal syndrome, where i think i look ok and the reality is another story? Grin

JasperJohns · 16/02/2012 22:59

I agree with Mrsmartin.

Unless you have a completely flat tummy area, bodycon dresses just draw attention to it. Some people are happy with that, but I think it's just drawing attention to the worst bits.

mrsmartin · 16/02/2012 23:00

All I am saying is I have spent the past 15 mins trying to find a picture of a size 14(ish) woman wearing a bodycon dress where the picture has been taken from the side and looks good. They look great front on but from the side it just isn't nice...

Find me a pic and I will happily (honestly - now being a wobbler) change my opinion.

DH says he can't see what is wrong with it btw...:o

ilovebabytv · 16/02/2012 23:31

now I'll have to take a side view next time i put my dress on and Im going to be bitterly disappointed arent i?

TheOriginalNutcracker · 16/02/2012 23:34

Hmmm thank you all for the replies. I think, what i need to do, is go and try some on and see what i look like.

I love all of the dresses linked too, but i think i'd look shit in them.

I think Spanx etc can work if you're fairly slim with an almost flat stomach, but just have a very slight/small bulge that needs to be smoothed out under a clingy dress. Works for me anyway.

They can't work magic though, they're not going to make you look slim if you're not.

I've wondered about bodycon dresses too, though what I worry about personally is how I'd look from the back, I'm a bit pear-shaped and imagine the fabric stretched skin-tight across my bum/thighs, not a good look...

Honestly I think there's not many of us who can look good in these styles of dresses :(

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/02/2012 08:06

This is meant to be uber flattering but is rather £££

I don't think a bit of a tummy on show is too bad really

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 17/02/2012 09:49

I think body con looks better if you have a bit of covering tbh - I didn't used to think that there are 2 women where I work, one is a 6/8 and one is a 14/16 both 5ft 6. When the 6/8 wears body con it looks a bit tenko and when the 16/18 wears it it looks so much better.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 17/02/2012 09:52

**disclaimer, if you are under 30 you may not know what tenko is.

AuldAlliance · 17/02/2012 09:58

bodycon - what does that mean anyway? Who is being conned?

noddyholder · 17/02/2012 10:03

I think toned is more important and being the right shape. a good waist for eg. I would look terrible in one as I am very straight up and down but with boobs. I like the riches side one mrsc much more elegant than the cross body draping. Best thing is to try one.

noddyholder · 17/02/2012 10:04

Ruched not riches!
