Too old for flicky eyeliner?

abigboydidit · 16/02/2012 08:29

I've always wanted to be able to do the flicky liquid eyeliner look for nights out but never dared attempt it as am cack handed not very skilled when it comes to make up. I watched a great video tutorial last night which I reckon even I could copy & planned to make the necessary purchases today. However - a colleague I was telling just informed me I was too old for such fabulous flickiness. Have I missed the boat? I'm nearly 36 35.

I think you can do it on any eye shape, but I've only ever used my own Wink

Line your eyes up to where your lashes end with a pencil.

Imagine a line from the end of your eye (outside corner) to the outside corner of your eyebrow.

Draw a dot about 7mm along that line, up from your lashes.

Connect the dot to your liner you've already applied on your lashline.

Repeat on t'other side.

That should give equal flicks.

Go over pencil line with liquid line. The oencil gives it "grab" and allows a smooth, glossy line.

Voilá!

pencil not oencil

fool

Flicky eye liner is timeless and gorgeous and your friend doesn't know what she's talking about!

I struggled for YEARS with liquid eyeliner, but justt bought the Maybelline gel liner which is SO much easier. Liquid enough to give that lovely slick straight line, but solid enough to control really easily (especially with the little brush you get with it).

Highly recommend!

am 36 and worn black eyeliner for ever. flicky eyes for about the last 2. I actually could not leave the house (slight exaggeration) without eyeliner and lashings of mascara

Whirliwig72 · 16/02/2012 16:43

No I wear eyeliner this way and think it makes me look more awake and therefore younger - I'm 39 and a half Grin. My only concession to my decrepitude us that I use a dark brown liner rather than black and I'm very careful about removing it all at night. Brown smudges in your crow's feet is not very appealing Wink

so the general consensus is your work friend is talking bollox let us know how you get on with the Bourjois stuff ! Really need to get some new colours in my make up bag - someone told me once they are made /owned by same factory as Chanel??

Gutted! Got goodies home and unwrapped. Bluster on. Pencil on. But bloody pen thing dry as a bone! Really hacked off. Will take it back to Boots tomorrow but has seriously put me off getting another one (but i have to as part of 3 for 2 and nothing else i want/need from their range). Actually - will they even exchange as is make-up?

Said already, but the Sally Hughes method of liner 1st to grab the liquid really helps.

I do thin line with light eyeshadow or no eyeshadow for off duty type look, and thicker more curvy flicky line with matt grey shadow for night out look.

mrsmartin · 16/02/2012 22:00

Honestly - wet eyeshadow is the most fool proof method and also makes it easier for you to correct any mistakes - if you don't have time to re-do you can just smudge the line and get a sexy worn-in look. pinot you do really big flicks!!! My trick is to do more of a kick than a flick and to do it about 3-4mm before the outer corner of the eye. Also, always make sure that the line is super skinny on the inside corner of the eye and gradually let it get thicker (it should only be a couple of mm thick anyway). And line the upper inner rim of your eye with pencil - if you don't then you can see the pink skin inbetween your eyelashes (and the look just doesn't look complete) - I see women who haven't done it everyday and it upsets me as much as when you see a well dressed woman who hasn't taken the stickers off the soles of her shoes...Sad

Thank you ladies! Credit card just taken another hit from your recommendations!
Never mind, at least I will have flicky eyes.

lemonbonbons · 17/02/2012 07:23

Thank You for the link * shall be trying later'. Her eyelashes were huge , am I right to presume they are extensions ?

butterfliesinmytummy · 17/02/2012 07:46

Will someone please get Sali Hughes a proper mirror - can't bear to see her juggling with that tiny compact mirror. Also, you can use a credit card to get your flicks straight

Oh! Another tutorial. Am going to look like Audrey Hepburn by bedtime [deluded]
