Wedding guest - confined to flat shoes - help!

Style and beauty virgin here so be gentle. I've got a family wedding in April and following an accident last year I'm confined to flatties. I would normally go for something like this or this with heels but I'm totally baffled where to start as I can't imagine either with flats. I'm 48, 5 foot 9, size 18, wrap styles suit me. I also have 4 gorgeous very glam cousins around the same age and height as me who have all been on diets and are down to size 12 so I will be feeling like the family frump anyway. Hope one of you lovely people one can help.

what sort of flat shoes? Ballet pumps? Have you got the shoes already or are you getting the dress first and then the shoes?

Thumbwitch · 11/02/2012 22:53

Might be an idea to go for a full length skirt/dress, perhaps with a bit of flare in the skirt, and then your shoes won't matter so much because they won't be as visible.

Any type of flats - I have nothing yet! I just can't wear anything that might cause a wobble in the ankle. I'm starting from scratch - but I don't know where to start! Like a Maxi you mean? Ooh hadn't thought of that, I always think I an too big/tall for them.

well if you still get the wrap style, it should look fine but most maxi dresses would probably work just as well; and the length should be fine, I think, since you'll be in flats anyway.
here's a few to start... Grin

I like the idea of the flowing wide leg pants. A wide necked wrap top to balance it - something that shows a little bit of shoulder? Have a look at the shoes I've just linked to at the end of my embarrassing nether regions post...

BestIsWest · 11/02/2012 23:25

{grin] attitude - I like it. I have had my confidence dented a bit lately, I need to remember 'attitude'. I like the sound of wide flowing pants too and some gorgeous dresses there Thumb. Just going to look for the nether regions post now.

Palazzo pants, that's what they're called, isn't it?

deviladvocate · 12/02/2012 00:15

Don't know this brand but just had a browse on the John Lewis website, spotted this think this would definitely suit a pretty flat sandal / evening shoe.

Thumbwitch · 12/02/2012 00:22

ooo I like that dress, devil :)

deviladvocate · 12/02/2012 00:32

Ooooh, I love this one: here i think it's stunning!

tethersend · 12/02/2012 00:34

I would go for something like this with pointed flats like this or this.

With a clutch. And i'd do a veiled pillbox hat too, but not for everyone.

deviladvocate · 12/02/2012 00:43

A friend of mine wore a fab outfit to my wedding - a pair of wide leg silk trousers and matching camisole with a spectacular wrap -I think it was from East. Would go maybe with these

I bought some of those comfort design wedges from Next a few years ago, when I had a problem with my back.

Very comfortable, shock resistant and a wedge is a lot safer than a heel. They weren't tall just a slight wedge. Could you do that?

Or a nice pair of flat sandals? April won't be cold after all. A maxi dress and some strappy gladiator flats?

sickbint · 12/02/2012 00:53

You can get some nice funky boots with a flat hee3l? Would that be worth considering? I never wear heels, ever, but do often wear boots with dresses.

BestIsWest · 12/02/2012 13:37

SOme lovely ideas there. I like that dress Tethers. If I can get away with something like that with flats I would be happy. I have only worn flat boots and trainers for the last 6 months so I don't know if I could get away with a wedge. Hmm. Thanks for all the ideas, I feel much happier.
