Colouring my own hair

I've had my hair highlighted for years. The roots really need doing, but I'm short of time (and a bit of money) at the moment and am very tempted by doing it myself. Is this advisable? Any suggestions on makes to use? Any tips on how to do it?

Thanks

I've done it myself a few times and been happy with the result.

I buy a dye like my natural colour, light brownish. Read instructions carefully. Put that on. Wash off and dry.

Then use the highlighting kit. There's one by wella, it is so old fashioned, 80s picture on the front and it is a cap but is does do the job! It takes quite a while to pull all the strands through, I would recommend that more is more if you are usually quite blonde.

If you can get someone to help you with this, accept it! It is tricky to get all around the back. And it makes your arms ache. So basically give yourself plenty of time! I find that keeping the hook perpendicular to your head makes it easier to pull the hair through.

Once you have done that, put the bleach on and leave it, I would say for 45 minutes but it depends on your hair, just keep checking it and if in doubt (if it's still a bit yellow) leave it a bit longer.

Hope that helps!
