Dare I wash my Ugg-style boots?

Anyone done this? I've had some Ugg-type sheepskin boots (from Toast) for about 7 or 8 years now. I love them (nicer and more unique than Uggs), but they look completely bogging now and have been assigned to slipper status for some time.
They are a natural colour (or at least were Blush), have embroidery on the front and tie up at the back, sheepy on the inside.
I'd love to wear them out again. I wouldn't have even contemplated chucking them in the washing machine, but I have some Celtic Sheepskin slippers that my mum suggested I washed and I took the plunge and they've come up beautifully.
Shall I just do it? Anyone done this with tragic consequences?

Watching as I would like some sheepy boots but would only fork out for them if I could wash them.

are they real sheepskin?
I've machine washed my slippers and they were fine....

insertsomethingwitty · 08/02/2012 17:26

I washed my real sheepskin boots and they were fine.

moogdroog · 08/02/2012 17:27

Yeah, they are real sheepskin. I'm thinking maybe there's nothing to lose. Unless I hear otherwise I'll pop them in the wash tonight and report back for MuslinSuit!

which cycle on the washing machine would you do them on??

moogdroog · 08/02/2012 18:02

I'm thinking a wool cycle? Or maybe a hand wash setting? With Method washing liquid and perhaps no softener???

I have Uggs and often throw them in the washing machine, 30 degrees dirty wash dose of powder, and an extra rinse, pop them on a radiator and they come up fine. A bit stiff when just washed but soon soft and comfy again.
Must have done them 4 times now and all is well, so should be fine.

Aah thank you smallsheep.

I shall wash with confidence!

They're out of the wash! Intact, none the worse for the experience (apart from being a bit crispy), but alas not greatly improved on the manky front.
Think I'm going to wash them again with less woo more robust detergent!

If only I'd known this earlier...
