Can anyone recommend a good home hair colourant?

I'm 47, mediterranean complexion and curly mid-length hair, so dark brown it's almost black. I had been getting it coloured at the salon but am giving up due to expense and also not liking the colour all that much - it was kind of reddish.

My own hair-colour is growing in generally darker but generously sprinkled with white. Eek!

What home product can you recommend that would colour in the greys and give my own colour a subtle lift but not change it too much? Has to be easy to use! Recommend me a brand - and I would be interested to hear from other mediterranean ladies about what they use.

I'd say don't bother with any of the mousses or easy to use formulas.

I dye my hair from dark brunette (albeit no grey) to this colour static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/Gallery_Images/2010/9/24/1285331945743/Eva-Wiseman-byline-pic-001.jpg and use Nice and Easy or Feria. For such an extreme change they're the best I've found.

I am a recent convert to Poly Tint in Warm Brown. It's about £2 but colour is lovely!

i've used lots of different brands but always end up going back to l'oreal excellence cream.

avoid nice n easy, i've had so many mishaps with their colours being unpredictable.
