Dark red/maroon jeans. I'm 32 and size 14, will I look horrendous?

I love the bright coloured jeans that are in at the minute but don't have even the teensiest bit of confidence to carry them off, so was thinking of playing it safe with a dark red pair to wear with my usual tunic tops/long cardi and Fly boots.

What do you think? Mutton/lamb? Grin

I'm 28 and wear mine all the time, so I'm hoping not for both our sakes Smile

MrsMeow · 07/02/2012 18:42

Oh good :) and I'm sure you look lovely!

I do wear skinny jeans most days. They're just either black, black, even blacker or really dark blue Grin

Well I'm 39 and wear bright skinnies and don't think they're at all mutton.

piratecat · 07/02/2012 18:45

go for it, it's my aim at 42 to lose a stone and get pair of dark green ones!

If i lose a stone i will be a 14.

MrsMeow · 07/02/2012 18:45

Thanks MrsCB, you're so brave. I really want a bright blue or teal green
pair but not sure if I'll carry them off :(

I'm 48 and the only thing keeping me away from them is the fact I have a 14yo DD who also wears them.
It's not that I think I'm too old, it's just I'd rather avoid direct comparison!
I do have dark brown, grey and navy, none of which she has.

startail · 07/02/2012 18:56

14 year old DDs are a problem.
I know my size 12 DD1 looks far better in skinny jeans and long boots than my size 16 arse doesSad

MrsMeow · 07/02/2012 19:02

Yes I think that's part of my problem - DD and all of her friends wear them in all colours and I don't want to look like the one trying to fit in!! (not that I'd WANT to fit in with a load of yr 7/8s but you know what I mean!!

DD has even got orange ones and looks amazing in them!

Get some new look ones and road test them. You'll be rocking teal in a matter of weeks Grin

mirpuppet · 07/02/2012 19:11

I think it depends on body shape and the way you wear them. I am pear shaped and have to emphasis my top half so bright jeans aren't the best unless I counter them with a fabulous top that draws the eye up.

I once had a pair of bright red trousers I thought I looked fab wearing with a black shirt I look horrible in photos with them on.

MrsCampbellBlack · 07/02/2012 19:18

Luckily my DD is 2 so I don't have those comparisons.

I think any size/shape can wear them really - its just how you wear them.

I have lavender and bright pink ready for spring and can't wait. 32 is young! Look at the Donna Ida website for ideas of how to style them in a slightly more grown up way than top shop.

KandyBarr · 07/02/2012 19:29

Caution: you could end up being featured on this blog

Though they seem to be picking off men

dexter73 · 07/02/2012 19:49

I have a 14 year old dd too so have steered away from brightly coloured skinnies. I have a burgundy pair and that is as bright as I will go!

MrsMeow · 07/02/2012 19:59

Enjoyingscience, it was New Look that I saw the ones I like, but couldn't be bothered to try them on!

MrsCB, will look at that site, thank you :) I really like the lavender ones too but the colour makes me look dead. I'll try some on at the weekend I think :)

KandyBarr - oh dear! They all look a bit Hooray Henry!

I am 35 and have been investing in a few couple of pairs of coloured skinnies! I think that if you keep it simple with the rest of your outfit, then they can look great. I live in skinny jeans, so it will be nice to have some colour in my wardrobe for once!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 07/02/2012 22:06

Just to clarify that I absolutely agree with everyone who says go for it - if my DD was under 10 I reckon I'd be wearing them. I'll probably try and get some bright cropped trousers instead - no way she'll be wearing those!
