suggestions to go with this dress please, I'm sartorially inept!

Bought this dress to wear to 2 weddings this April. I'd like to get a shrug/cardi or somesuch a) to hide me bfing 4 week old DS2 and b) so my brothers don't have me looking identical for their weddings. I also need shoes and suggestions of holdy-in undies for someone 4 weeks post-cs.

Any suggestions? as the title says, I am completely inept when it comes to style, think 6 year old jeans and t-shirts and that's pretty much me. I don't want to look absolutely hideous though if I can help it!
TIA

Easy peasy.... black shoes.

If you have good legs bare them for an april wedding. If not fake tan them.

I love the colour, but a black shrug etc would be too sombre for a wedding. I'd go for jewel tones. <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=jewel+tones&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1828&bih=1075&tbm=isch&tbnid=tlW2_z5Rg4e8fM:&imgrefurl=www.abcballoons.com.au/colour-chart/jewel&docid=vFmEt9_OvVVbdM&imgurl=www.abcballoons.com.au/images/editorimages/jewel_tones.jpg&w=506&h=537&ei=upMsT9jyPMWf0QWC9N2sCA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=634&vpy=119&dur=5150&hovh=231&hovw=218&tx=113&ty=137&sig=110301854846680453589&page=1&tbnh=110&tbnw=104&start=0&ndsp=59&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">these colours

Steer away from another maroon though- too matchy = bleurgh

Shoes. You could get away with black easily and just wear a wrap/cardi with colour. Something with a bit of sparkle might be nice in a court shoe. I'm thinking along the lines of...

no sparkle but lovely shoe

sparkly detail

See I was thinking white/cream shrug but I love brights, hadn't even thought about that.
And black shoes, right, gotta get looking!

No no nooooo to white/cream shrug.

Agree with mrscumber, black shoes :)

CakeandRoses · 04/02/2012 10:45

oh i do love that dress - you'll look super!

imo, jewel colours would be too bright against the dress. the dress is a muted colour so you need another muted shade. A soft pumpkin (yellow/orange) pashmina would work well with it. Also, a soft sagey green would too, if you can get both then you have a different one for each wedding.

metallic shoes would be lovely as they'd lift the look. old gold ones would work well with both pumpkin and sage.

if you like the sound of this then i'll have a look for you for examples later.

CakeandRoses · 04/02/2012 11:15

another option would be a soft grey pasmina with dull silver shoes

dingdong3 · 04/02/2012 11:24

I wouldn't wear a shrug or cardy with this dress personally..it's gorgeous but quite drapey already so I would put a more structured short blazer or jacket with it myself. I would probably chose navy. Also thought more along the lines of a gorgeous belt and/or jewellery to change the look. Or how about grey? belt, suggested blazer

dingdong3 · 04/02/2012 11:27

Oh, and I was just about able to squeeze into the Spanx higher power panties when I was 4 weeks post cs. Worked a treat!

CakeandRoses · 04/02/2012 11:33

but when bf dingdong? i'd personally prefer more spare fabric than a jacket would allow.

re hold-ins - i've have some M&S spanx-type jobbies which were less miraculous but cheaper and kinder Smile

maybenow · 04/02/2012 11:40

a silvery grey would be my choice for a cardie/pashmina/shrug..

dingdong3 · 04/02/2012 11:57

I suppose it would mean slipping the jacket off for feeding...can't really help there with the practicalities of that as I never bf'd any of mine. I was just thinking about what would look nicest with the dress. Grin

Chulita · 04/02/2012 12:18

cake I love the sound of pumpkin and old gold, orange is my fave colour.

Just to reiterate I will be post cs and currently have both sciatica and spd so heels might not be a good idea (sadly).

That plum colour looks great with a deep green Green tights and heels and a wrap maybe?

CakeandRoses · 04/02/2012 12:59

Grin dingdong i know what you mean. tbh, it took me a bit of an effort to cast my mind back to the trials of early days of bf - and my youngest is only 18m!

oh goodie chul tbh, scuse the woo but i suspect you might well be an autumn Grin so that muted pumpkin shade would be perfect for you.

this is clearly not a pashmina but has lots of good bf drapery which might work. tis bargainous too.

or this might work (hard to get a proper feel for it in these pics tho)

lastly, <a class="break-all" href="http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/nordstrom-tissue-weight-wool-cashmere-wrap/3196871?siteid=J84DHJLQkR4-EX9S7yKxgqXeNQNbZRoYyg&url=shop.nordstrom.com/s/nordstrom-tissue-weight-wool-cashmere-wrap/3196871?origin=keywordsearch&cm_ven=Linkshare&cm_cat=partner&cm_pla=10&cm_ite=1" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this plain one might do it.

if you like these shades then you'll get good use out of these after the wedding/s too.

will have to have a good think about footwear then...

CakeandRoses · 04/02/2012 13:00

the above links aren't defaulting to the right colours but i'm sure you'll figure that out

CakeandRoses · 04/02/2012 13:18

would a lowish wedge like this be too high for you?

Chulita · 04/02/2012 14:55

I don't mind the woo cake Grin tbh normally I go for bright-ish orange/yellow/red but avoid black/grey/beige (bleugh) and pastels. I might get that HofF one since it's on offer, a low wedge would probably be fine, esp for the 2nd wedding.
